HEY AIESEC!  For those of you unfamiliar with the AIESEC culture, this is often

the phrase heard at the start of every AIESEC experience so it only seemed appropriate that the Christmas newsletter begins in such a fashion also.

This term has been an exciting one for UCLU AIESEC and this newsletter aims to offer a few glimpses of this excitement. From the inception of our new Marketing and Communications function (MaC) to new partnerships, the leadership team has worked hard to offer opportunities to our members in line with this year’s theme of "opportunity to practise, confidence to deliver". Empowering ourselves through empowering others is at the core of all we do in AIESEC and we are working hard to enable more leadership opportunities week by week to develop more young people into the global leaders of tomorrow.

If there is anything in this newsletter that you would like to enquire about, please do not hesitate to contact us - we are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to improve what we do here at UCLU AIESEC.

Finally all that remains is for me to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!

DIVIDABILL Dividabill is a company that generates

revenue by providing a streamline service of all your bills (gas, electricity, water, internet, etc) at one go at a value for money price. Ever since the contract was signed in July, it has been a seamless working partnership. The co-founder Jon, who is the main person in contact with us, is great and shared with us some of his life experiences and stories when he first started the company. Our intern, Erkin, is doing a great job at Dividabill. Initially, we were slightly worried about him settling into a new country as it’s his first time out of Kyrgyzstan, but the worries have been totally unfounded as we’ve been told that he’s an extremely competent programmer who managed to pick up a wide variety of skills within a few weeks. It has been mentioned that they might consider Erkin as a long term hire after his current contract finishes. Overall, it was a great pleasure working with Dividabill.

CROUD Croud is a digital marketing company that

develops mobile apps for the most effective and accountable marketing tools. Since getting the raise in November, we have 103 applicants applying for the job. Currently, we are in the process of screening the CVs of app l i cants and in terv iew ing them. Preferably, we would want to shortlist 5 – 10 candidates by the end of the year, with work experience related to mobile applications, good technical competence, and have social awareness.

Future Opportunities We are in the process of getting a re-raise for Dividabill, as they are very satisfied with Erkin’s performance and would require more interns. At the moment, we are also in the process of settling the contract for 2 potential raises with Cedar Management Consulting International LLC, which is an international consultancy firm.

UCLU AIESEC: GLOBAL VILLAGE 2015

In the beginning, we struggled to secure an appropriate venue for the event and that caused risks to setting a date for the event. With continuous effort from the Manager, Eu Min, we were able to sort that out. Then we liaised with societies in UCL and KCL who were interested in collaborating with us. The responses were generally positive as most societies were happy to continue collaboration in the Global Village based on pleasant experience from past years. There were also new societies who were showing interests as well. To discuss matters regarding the event, several attempts were made to establish collaborations with points of contact from different societies through face-to-face meeting, social media or emails. And after extensive discussions with the societies and confirmations on key issues, we set the ball rolling for our ER flagship: Global Village

The Global Village was split into 2 zones: Asia and Europe, mainly because interested societies fell into these 2 categories. Societies came early in the morning at 9 to set up for their stalls. The Chinese Society sold traditional dimsum and “wonton Noodles”, Vietnamese Society prepared fried rice and baguettes, Kurdish Society brought delectable Kurdish food such as Borek and Lokma…… European Society even bought a bottle of wine for lottery!

The festive event attracted a huge crowd, especially during lunch hours. It was held at South Cloisters, a long hallway near the UCL Main Quad. Light music chimed across the hallway and the aroma of food wafted through the air as students, professors and staff of UCL explored different cuisines across the globe.

The Outgoing Exchange Team set up a GoGlobal stall to promote AIESEC's core exchange programmes to students. The Marketing and Communication team asked each attendee to write about a social issue they were most concerned about on a piece of paper, before folding it into an origami plane. This was inspired by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Unsurprisingly, the most popular Sustainable Development Goal among our participants was “Quality Education”!

We would like to express our appreciation to all participating societies of Global Village. We were thrilled to gain insights into the different cultures showcased, while our taste buds were given a rare treat with scrumptious local food. Global Village would not have been a success without the continuous support of all participating societies. We hope that all participants have enjoyed the event as much as we have - and here's to an even more memorable Global Village next year.

CHRISTMAS BALL WINTER WONDERLAND

Our annual Christmas Ball took place on 11th December 2015 at Thistle Holborn, The Kingsley Hotel. This years event was a huge success with 59 attendees deciding to celebrate with us on this festive occasion. This included the company of many externals and partners including those from NACUE, JCI, Bryanston Square, SkillsGym & many more.

The evening started with a friendly we lcome at the entrance f rom organising committee member Arthur D i joux , swi f t l y accompanied by welcoming drinks at the bar-lounge. In true AIESEC fashion, a series of ‘Hey AIESEC!’ chants soon occurred signifying the time for a short introduction of our external guests as well as a brief networking session. At the conclusion of this session attendants soon made their way to the Kingsley Two Brasserie for the start of the evening's Christmas Ball: Winter Wonderland.

Upon arrival at the main restaurant starter was swiftly served, the lobster bisque with Alioli Crout and herb oil being the most popular choice. Following this was the first of the evening’s planned activities led by Alison Mok and Siuyu Yeung, this included challenging everyone’s artistic skills through drawing several christmas items on paper plates which were placed above their heads, a challenge which was thoroughly enjoyed by both AIESEC members and externals alike. With the celebrations now truly underway, people

At this stage the services of our photographer Tony Cheung was still in very high demand which led to a slight delay in the dessert being served. Finally when dessert was served attendants were left to indulge in a variety of treats ranging from apple and almond frangipane tart, s t i c k y t offe e p u d d i n g , c h o c o l a t e a n d o ra n g e

Over 100 countries and territories and 42, 000 voices were captured in the 2015 c o m p r e h e n s i v e s u r v e y t o e n g a g e stakeholders across government, business, third sector and education. This year we are striving to achieve 100 000 responses from young people globally to provide decision makers with young opinion on the way they envision the world in 2030 and what are the issues that they are ready to act upon today to make this future brighter.

We live in a broken place. The Paris terror attacks, elevated tensions in the South China Sea and Europe's refugee crisis are but flashpoint of much deeper problems plaguing our world today.

As we mourn the victims of tragic brutalities and lament the decisions of policymakers, more pressing questions begin to surface. As youths, what is our role in driving change? How might we reduce conflict, promote peace, decelerate climate change, and achieve many more, all within the next 15 years?

Such goals may seem idealistic, but we must not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We have to begin somewhere. The starting point is to kindle a conversation on what matters to the leaders of tomorrow - and that's why we seek to understand what you think through YouthSpeak.

UCLU AIESEC has worked tirelessly to promote YouthSpeak. The Marketing and Communication (MaC) Team set up a Youth Speak Photobooth at Global Village and also a Youth Speak Stall on 1st December. We explained Youth Speak to UCL Students and encouraged volunteers to complete the Youth Speak Survey @ http://youthspeak.aiesec.org.

Is there a particular social issue that has been on your mind? Join our conversation at YouthSpeak today.
