U-bahn addicted born in Berlin, at a time of deep emptiness.
We decided to travel all the metro lines, photographing the stations. Our purpose wasn't making a photographic work but collecting places.
Our interest was to stay as long as possible, in the wagons and make clear rounds on the same line without changing trains.
The long permanence in the trains and the atypical purpose of our travels, led us to experience un unexpected state of "addiction".
The photographic documentation is merged into the needed return on lines already covered by repeating patterns and mechanisms that lost their original purpose, turning into pure experience.
We spent about nine hours a day for ten days travelling on the subway and taking photos.
The installation summarizes our experience through visual and sounds suggestions: a video obsessively repeats the images of the stations, taken in an attempt to document every line from terminus to terminus; the music evokes the feeling of dizziness and addiction that we experienced; the photos are distributed in the space and have captions with the text that accompanied our journey.
Visitors can decide to stay as long as he likes, being "contaminated" or not by all these stimuli.
Project description/Descrizione del progetto
U-bahn addicted nasce a Berlino, in un momento di profondo vuoto.
Abbiamo deciso di percorrere tutte le linee della metropolitana, fotografando le stazioni, non con l’intento di fare un lavoro fotografico in senso stretto ma di fare collezione di luoghi.
Il nostro interesse era rimanere, per quanto possibile, dentro i vagoni e fare percorsi netti sulla stessa linea, senza cambiare treno.
La permanenza in una condizione spazio-temporale altra rispetto al quotidiano e rispetto all’uso comune del mezzo di trasporto, ci ha condotto a sperimentare un inaspettato stato di “dipendenza”.
Durante il periodo in cui si è svolto il lavoro, la documentazione fotografica è confluita nel bisogno di tornare sulle linee già percorse, ripetendo meccanismi e schemi che avevano perso lo scopo originario trasformandosi in pura esperienza.
Abbiamo trascorso circa nove ore al giorno per dieci giorni viaggiando sulla metropolitana e facendo foto.
L’installazione che proponiamo sintetizza la nostra esperienza attraverso suggestioni visive e sonore: un video ripropone ossessivamente le immagini dei nomi delle stazioni, scattate nel tentativo di documentare ogni linea, da capolinea a capolinea; una musica richiama la sensazione di stordimento e dipendenza che abbiamo vissuto; le foto sono distribuite nello spazio e riportano in didascalia parti del testo che ha accompagnato il nostro viaggio.
Il visitatore può entrare e decidere di stare quanto vuole, lasciandosi contaminare o meno da tutti questi stimoli.

Installation can be placed on the floor or wall, rather in a locked room (the dimensions are not critical).
It requires a projector or a television for video.
L’installazione può essere collocata sul pavimento o su una parete, preferibilmente in una stanza chiusa (le dimensioni non sono fondamentali).
E’ necessario un proiettore o un televisore per il video.
