SPM essay paper is

driving me crazy. What

am I suppose to write?

How many types of

essays are there?



I think there are 2

types of essays. One is

in section A and an-

other in section B.

Anyway who cares...



Section A and Section B. I

don’t think so, section

and type is different.

There has to be more but

what are they?



Hi, I am Doc Negator. There

are 6 types of essay questions

in the SPM continuous writing

section. It will be good if you

take some interest to know

them.



I will brief you on all 6 of

them in a very simple

English. This is to help you

to get a basic idea of each

style that you need to know

and learn. Okay, let’s begin.



It is more like story telling. You are to write a

story about yourself or about someone else.

You need to tell the story in a chronological

manner. Tell the story in an interesting way.

Use the 5 senses to reach out and touch your

readers.

SAMPLE SPM QUESTION - [ 2010 ]

- Write a story beginning with:

“It had been raining all day...”



It means to illustrate or to describe. You

describe what you observe. You may need to

describe about a person, place, memory etc.

Use descriptive language. Make your reader

see and feel your point.

- Describe The Most Popular Student In Your School.



It means to reason or reflect. It is more of

describing something. It could be real or

imagery. You need to evaluate your feelings

about the whole experience. It could be about

a scene, event, feeling or a thought.

- What We Can Do To Save The Environment



It means to argue about something. It also

means combative. You need to show that you

have a valid argument. Readers have a choice

to agree or disagree. You must support your

arguments with strong evidences and facts.

- “The Internet is mostly a good thing.” Do you

agree? Support your opinion.



Only one word is given. You are required to

write an essay based on the given word. You

can use the “Narrative / Reflective or De-

scriptive” style to write this type of essay.

- HOME



It means information or facts. You are to

expose about something or a matter. You need

to write the essay in a clear and concise

manner. You only need to inform, no opinion

is needed.

Now, what you need to do now is practice, practice and practice

writing them. Learn at least 3 types and if you work hard surely

you can get good grades for your SPM English

essay. It is in your hands to make it a reality.
