The intention is to inspire parishioners to think about the meaning of this word, both in a social context and as one of our values. One of the meanings of respect is treating everyone with equality and dignity and being true to our Catholic traditions. Peter summarizes the Bible’s teaching on respect in his first letter: “Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king” … (1 Peter 2:17). Loving the brotherhood of believers, means to love all believers, regardless of color, nationality, or beliefs; and we are called to demonstrate that we love all our brothers and sisters in Christ. Through the ages, Christians have sought to take the example and words of Jesus to heart and strive to live by His words in all social settings. I believe that as much as today’s social setting is very different from when the scriptures were written; our commitment and loyalty to Catholic teachings and traditions remains. In the words of Pope John Paul II, the foundation of Catholic social teaching "is a correct view of the human person and of his unique value, inasmuch as ‘man … is the only creature on earth which God willed for itself.’ God has imprinted his own image and likeness on man (cf. Gen 1:26), conferring upon him an incomparable dignity" (Centesimus Annus 11). We are not simply individuals --we are members of a community. Our first community is our own family and every member of the family is essential to building a strong parish community. Therefore, we must continuously look for ways to engage all the members of the family with respect. I hope you will all take some time during the next few weeks to talk about the different ways you and your family show each other and your neighbors proper respect. I look forward to sharing more thoughts on how we show Respect for one another at Holy Spirit. On the journey, Fr. Dennis G. Lewandowski

Twenty-seventh SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – October 8, 2017

Weekend Mass Times: Saturday: 4:30pm (confessions at 3:30pm) Sunday: 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00am

Week Days Mass at 9:00am: Monday- Wednesday Mass Thursday & Friday Communion Service

Starting this week, we will be sharing some thoughts on what the word RESPECT means.

On the journey,

Fr. Dennis G. Lewandowski

Being healthy requires striving for physical, emotional and spiritual health and attaining a balance of the true self. As God’s children, we are created in His image and are, when healthy, whole; a true self who knows, respects and appreciates an “authentic me.” Our culture oftentimes presents “false positives” and can tempt us into negative behaviors. Self Esteem, integrity, good self-image, authenticity, compassion and caring are working attributes across a Life span. Dr. Erin Terada, PsyD DECS, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, and will be the presenter. Come and participate in this presentation and discussion for yourself or for someone you love.

Tuesday, October 24 from 7-9 pm in the Lighthouse St. Thomas the Apostle 1500 Brookdale Rd. Naperville, IL 60563 R.S.V.P. by October 20 to Marge Coronado 630.355.8980 x118 or [email protected]

Struggling with Self-Image?

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The good news of today’s Gospel is that all we need to do is let God tend us and bring us to produce good fruit. All we need do is be faithful and God will take care of the rest.

In your generosity, please remember Society of St. Vincent de Paul, so that we may bring the love and mercy of Jesus to those who feel left out and abandoned. Your monetary gift is very much appreciated.
