Tutorial - Tekla Structures linkThis tutorialwill show how to activate and use the link between Tekla Structuresand IDEAStatiCa SteelConnection.

1 How to activate the link1. Tekla Structures version 21.0, 21.1, 2016 or 2016imust be installed on the computer.

2. Download and install the latest version of 64-bit IDEAStatiCa Steel.Enhanced edition is required.

3. After installation of both programs, run IDEAStatiCa and start with the itemBIM.

4. In the BIM wizard continue with the item Links... During the process notification "Run as administrator" appears. Please con-firm with the buttonYES.

5. Select your version of Tekla Structuresand click the button Install. The processof integration will start.

2 How to use the link1. Open attached project in Tekla Structures.

2. Start the link in the “IDEAConnection” tab and click on icon according to code.

3. Select a joint node and press spacebar.

4. Select membersand finish selection by spacebar.

First selectedmember will be set asa bearing one in IDEAStatiCa Connection.

5. Select all joint elements (plates, bolts, welds) and finish selection by spacebar.

6. Set file name and path of IDEAStatiCa SteelConnection project to save.

3 IDEA StatiCa ConnectionAutomatic data transfer is started and IDEAStatiCa SteelConnection with generated project is launched

4 Geometry

Allmemberswere added automatically. We set column as “bearingmember”.

5 Load effects

Weadd a new load effect by icon and define valuesof internal forces into the table. More load cases can be added.

6 Check of a structural steel joint

Nonlinear analysis is started by icon from the top ribbon. Analysis model is automatically generated, calculation is performed andwe can check results.

Weactivate Strain check, Bolt forces, Mesh and Deformed from the ribbon to get a full picture of what is happening in the joint. Everythingis displayed in the 3D window.

All values can be checked in detailed in the tables and 2D window. For example to display check of bolts we select tab Bolts/Anchors tab.We can also activate icon Equivalent stress from the ribbon.

7 ReportIDEAStatiCa offers three typesof output reports – one line, 1 page and detailed.
