What is Tumblr?ONE OF THE MOST FAST GROWING SOCIAL NETWORKS

- free micro-blogging website/ platform

- Tumblr was created as a way for the average person to easily manage a blog (seanseo, 2009)

- Millions of people sharing the things they do, find, love or create.

- With Tumblr you can share anything and customize everything

As Rozas (2010) says, Tumblr is quickly becoming the third member of the holy trinity of social media, along with Twitter and Facebook. The New York Times’ makes it official with this headline: “Facebook and Twitter’s New Rival.”

Elements and usesAnything can be easily shared via browser, phone, email, for free! Two important elements: you can ‘follow’ others and ‘reblog’ their posts (Rozas, 2010)

In comparison to Facebook and Twitter, you can create the whole layout yourself and use your own domain name.

When to use it? For entertainment, for sharing ideas, pictures or anything

- Individuals share their thoughts with everyone- They can follow others, and ‘reblog’ their posts- Same idea as Myspace and Facebook, but Tumblr is more a scrapbook with little bits of information

For education, information purposes

For marketing purposes- Businesses can promote their brand by creating followers

Average userThe average Tumblr user creates 14 posts and 3 blogs each month. Half of those posts are photos. The rest are text, links, quotes, music, and videos. (tumblr, 2011)

The average user of social media is 37 years oldThe average ratio of all 19 sites was 47% male, 53% female

As Tumblr is relatively young, it is not taken into consider yet with other social networks when analyzing data.
