TSHIVENDA MUSIC AWARDS 2017 PRESS RELEASE
08 JUNE 2017
For immediate release
Thohoyandou, Limpopo Province – The 4th Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) launch
was held on Thursday the 8th of June 2017 at a well packed and astounding Khoroni Hotel in
Thohoyandou town.
The official launch was attended by the who’s who of the music industry including Thovhele
Gole Mphaphuli, the MEC of Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture Mme Onicca
Moloi, Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Cllr Florence Radzilani, Mayor of
Thulamela Local Municipality Cllr Avhashoni Tshifhango and the official from the National
Department of Arts and Culture represented by Mr Peter Mbelengwa as well as representatives
of the local media houses like Mr Avhashoni “Shabba” Muleya of Energy and Choice FM
respectively.
This year’s event is also bringing some new categories as part of its growth strategy and see
nominees battling it out in 14 categories, two more than in the previous edition with an
introduction of the “Best Tshivenda Indigenous Gospel Artist/Group of the Year” as well
as the “NYDA Sponsored TSHIMA Young and Limitless Artist of the Year” which only
focuses on artists who are younger than 21 years, an attempt to try and encourage young artists
to unearth young talent and give it exposure.
“We are very excited to be staging the 4th edition and we urge our artists to produce more
quality music as we will be limiting the number of categories that have to be decided through
the sms voting process this time around. We have witnessed what has been happening recently
in other awards and we think the voting system is somehow not always a true reflection of the
artist’s abilities, those with financial means can determine the outcome at the expense of those
with less means. Only four categories will be determined through an sms voting process and
the rest will be adjudicated by our Independent Adjudication Committee”, said Mr Augustine
Nethononda: Project Director of the event.
The Lifetime Merit Award which focuses on recognising the legends will also be part of the
categories and will be determined by the Independent Adjudication Committee.
The Final Nominees of the 2017 edition will be announced at a Gala Dinner to be hosted on
the 29th of July 2017. Entry Forms and the awards’ Rules and Regulations are available online
and can be downloaded by visiting www.tshima.org.za. Completed forms can be dropped at
SPAR outlets in Thohoyandou, Sibasa, Biaba, NYDA offices in Thohoyandou, Thulamela
Local Municipal offices or the Brand Called You shop at Khoroni Hotel from Monday the 12th
of June 2017 and will close on Friday the 30th of June 2017 at exactly12:00 midday.
The 2017 Tshivenda Music Awards is proudly sponsored by the National Lotteries
Commission, National Department of Arts and Culture, the National Heritage Council,
Business and Arts South Africa, SPAR Thohoyandou, Coca-Cola and Khoroni Hotel.
