Missing rear cover and some of the backstrip minor damp stain to lower outside corner otherwise very

This short work is a spirited defense of Cannon's win as Territorial Delegate and a condemnation of

Governor Murray certifying the election against the wishes of the voters. This election would also bring

renewed attention to the practice of polygamy in Utah, and by Cannon in particular. Uncommon.

"In the fall and early winter of 1880 it was rumored and whispered around Salt Lake City that whatever

the result of the count of actual votes cast at the election for delegate, Mr. Allen G. Campbell would be

declared elected, and would be foisted, by some mysterious means, into Congress as the delegate

representing Utah, although it soon became well known he had received but 1,357 votes, to 18,568 votes

cast for Mr. Geo. Q. Cannon." - p.1

Large run of newsletters from the Order of Aaron. This is only the second time that we have encountered

ephemera from the Order of Aaron, the previous time was a single issue of this periodical.

This is the official periodical for the Order of Aaron, a utopian community that is based in Eskdale, which

is at the southern end of the Snake Valley near the Utah border with Nevada.

Originally considered an LDS schismatic group, due to the founder, Maurice Glendenning’s, previous

association with the Mormon Church. Glendenning was excommunicated from the LDS Church in 1945,

after the founding of the House of Aaron.

This edition was limited to 500 copies, printed at the Grabhorn Press and

edited with an introduced by Oscar Osburn Winther. Includes a facsimile of an

ALS from Brigham Young that is tipped in between pages 60 and 61. The full-

page illustration 'Great Salt Lake City in 1853' from Piercy/Linforth between

pages 74 and 75.

Although never Mormon himself, Thomas L. Kane (1822-1883) nonetheless

was a friend and confidante of Brigham Young. Nicely produced volume from

the Grabhorn Press. GB 274.

Sextodecimo [14 cm] Nicely bound in full period

sheep with period marbled endsheets and

pastedowns. Gilt rules and black Morocco label on

backstrip. Marbled fore edge. Internally very nice.

The fourth, and first European edition of the Book of

Mormon.

At the April 1840 conference in Preston, Brigham

Young, Heber C. Kimball, and Parley Pratt were

appointed to secure a British copyright for the Book of

Mormon. Three weeks later, Young wrote to Joseph

Smith for Permission to publish the book in England,

and early in July he and Pratt purchased paper and

engaged J. Tompkins and Co. to print and bind 5,000

copies. The 1841 Book of Mormon is a faithful reprint

of the 1837 Kirtland edition. It is an important link in

the genealogy of the Book of Mormon: except for two

Nauvoo edition, all subsequent LDS editions of the

Book of Mormon in English from this first British

(c.1940). [86pp.] Octavo [21.5 cm] Light blue illustrated wrappers. Better than very good. Hundreds of

text illustrations, woodcut illustrations, photographic plates, etc.

First edition, thus, of this scarce Salt Lake Stamp Co. catalogue featuring a myriad of stamp alphabets,

stock certificates, seals, wax seals, steel logging and sawmill company stamps, and more. Of additional

interest are the plates illustrating Utah sheriff, constable, city marshal, police, and theater badges, as

well as badges for game wardens, Pinkerton detectives, U.S. Forest Rangers, as well as hotel and transit

hat badges. The company also produced and sold celluloid buttons, fraternal order and LDS Church

buttons, enamel signs, trade checks, and a thriving rubber stamp business. The company was first

founded by William Sherman Bing who first set up in 1897, and then by 1910 had moved to San Diego,

where he founded the California Stamp Company. The Salt Lake Stamp Co. later was owned by the

Cannon family, first managed and run by Edwin Q. Cannon, and later operated for 30 years by Edwin Q.

Cannon, Jr. (1918-2005), best remembered for establishing the LDS Church’s thriving missions in Africa.

White Women Over the Rockies' edited by Drury. The diaries are reprinted verbatim, with no changes in

spelling, punctuation, etc. Each is introduced by the editor with historical background and identification

and continued it up to the time of publication.

What began as a history of the organization

quickly evolved into the primary source of

information on the Butterfield Overland Mail, the

first great overland postal service from the

Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast. Roscoe, a

mining engineer, and his music teacher wife

personally traveled over 65,000 miles and took

over 4,000 photographs, as well as interviewing

those with personal, firsthand knowledge to

document its path. The reviews were almost

embarrassing in their praise. Later scholars

following their pioneer work have agreed with

Texas historian A.C. Greene, who stated that their

efforts 'stands out magnificently.' With its detailed

"Morgan considered this volume, the fruit of two

decades of research, his most important single

historical work. It is primarily an edited compilation of

primary sources relating to Ashley's Missouri Fur

Company and his activities in the beaver trade after

selling out to Jedediah Smith, David E. Jackson, and

William L. Sublette, and before his death in 1838.

Scores of letters, accounts, diaries, and newspaper

transcripts are salted liberally with Morgan's able

commentary and historical notes. It was to be

considered for the Pulitzer Prize but was submitted

past the entry deadline. A companion volume on

Robert Campbell was planned for 1965 but never

Wyoming range that includes much on the mountain men and explorers who visited the area. Sections

on Jackson Hole, Pierre's Hole and Thomas Moran.

Major biography of the conquistador,

southwestern explorer and governor, who is a

divisive figure, remembered as much for his

explorations of the lower Colorado River as his

brutal treatment of the Acoma.

place among the first pioneers of the United

States. It was Onate, who, after he finally received

the coveted privilege of conquering and pacifying

the province of New Mexico in 1595, established
