Triple R Solution The maintenance schedule shown in the above illustraon is based on manufacturer’s recommendaon which dictates an oil change every 200 hours, and a full flow filter change every 400 hours. The manufacturer set the change interval as a recom- mendaon based on several parameters, namely; • Oil grade (depicts addives package), • Esmated contaminaon, and, • Working environment. Addives are the first line of defense against contaminaon - they scarify themselves to protect the oil. Addives adhere to contaminants, they engulf and break them down, as well, they protect engine walls so contaminants won’t damage them. Once addives are exhausted, oil is leſt without any meaningful protecon and needs replacing. With Triple R Oil Cleaner, contaminants are connuously removed from oil, almost as quickly as they develop under normal engine operaon. With such a setup, addive package depleon slows down by a factor between 4 to 10 mes. As such, oil is protected for that much longer, and consequently, the oil change interval is extended by a similar factor. Right-sizing the Triple R soluon, the crical parameters of each genset is determined by tesng residual contaminaon, while taking into consideraon diesel fuel quality, and environmental condions. Sizing is an exercise that requires stricking a delicate balance between contaminants generaon and removal coupled with an acceptable return on investment economics. ALBERT MASSAAD S.A.R.L LONG RUNNING HOURS GENSET CASE STUDY Albert Massaad sarl deploys two backup diesel generang sets (gensets) supplemenng electricity from Electricité Du Liban (EDL) - one rated at 250KVA and another rated at 130KVA. The larger genset sports a VolvoPenta industrial engine model 1210G, while the 2 nd genset is equipped with an Iveco engine. Both engines require 15W40 diesel motor oil, with a change interval set at 200 hours. Connuous factory operaon (18x6) puts a heavy load on both gensets to support the factory during EDL outages. Thefore, the 200-hour oil change interval is reached quickly calling for frequent oil changes. Given his recent experience on the Salvagnini Line, Mr. Serge Massaad requested TRME to apply the bypass filtraon tech- nique to both gensets. The aim is protecng the investment beyond normal reacve maintenance (oil change) and moving into the pro-acve maintenance territory. Here, oil is cleaned during operaon, providing beer performing gensets with longer engine life, while minimizing factory interrupon. Triple R Solution

The maintenance schedule shown in the above illustration is based on manufacturer’s recommendation which dictates an oil change every 200 hours, and a full flow filter change every 400 hours. The manufacturer set the change interval as a recom-mendation based on several parameters, namely;

The TR-Series (AL50, AL100) is the original solution created specifically for diesel engines applications. This ubiquitous solution is proven to offer results with good economics.

Introducing the AL100 to a diesel engine requires setting a new pro-active maintenance schedule. Here, the E100’s change interval is set at 200 hours, while the full flow filter change interval is kept constant at 400 hours. Then, Oil is tested every 200 hours to determine the most practical oil change interval with best economics, while keeping oil in good condition.

According to Mr. Serge Massaad, Plant Director, the initial requirement for the gensets was to supplement EDL electricity supply in short dark periods, and for emergency use. However, with EDL supply dwindling to less than 50% of requirement, the gensets became the main supply to the plant.

He articulates: “A modern plant cannot function efficiently without continuous supply of power. Therefore, I needed to pro-actively protect these gensets so we maintain constant supply of power to the plant when EDL’s supply is out. A solution from Triple R provided a multitude of protection.

For one engine runs cooler with continuously clean oil - every time we start a genset we are sure oil is as good as new. Also, Changing oil becomes as simple as swapping Triple R Elements.

A Triple R solution helped lower the cost of generating electric-ity in our plant, while running an efficient, environmentally-friendly operation. As far as capital cost goes, the solution from Triple R practically paid for itself in less than six months.”

Following the revised schedule, we tested oil every 200 hours. Analysis revealed that by using the AL100 we can extend the oil change interval from 200 to 800 hours and save 46% on running cost. By going to 1200 hours the savings reach 52%, as illustrated in the figure below by the green and blue bars, respectively. Beyond 1200 hours the savings become negligible and changing the oil becomes a rational alternative. Therefore, the new change interval was set to 1200 hours following the new schedule as illustrated in the figure below.
