THE TRINITY IS LOVE

Theologians throughout the Chris an centuries have spilled much ink (and, on occasion, some blood) in de-scribing and defining the mystery of the Holy Trinity. One of the earliest, most poe c, and beau ful descrip ons comes from St. Augus ne in De Trinitas, wherein he de-scribes the Trinity as One (the Father) who loves, One (the Son) who is loved, and One (the Spirit) who is love. And these three Ones are also one. It might be wisest for us to leave the technical wran-glings to the academic theologians, and focus on the fact that the three Persons of the Trinity are indeed persons; they are best known and understood in their love for each other and for us. We are made in the image of those loving persons, and our best rela onships are lived out in the context of love. Truly loving rela onships are inexhaus ble mysteries to be lived in joy. If this is true of our human rela onships, how much more so is it true of our rela onship with the Trinity? And how much more does it call upon us to be joyful, loving witnesses of the holy mystery of the One-in-Three. This is the mystery to which we were called when we were chosen to be God’s own, bap zed with water in the name of the Holy Trinity.

STOP ASSISTED SUICIDE—PETITION

California Senate Bill 128 seeks to legalize physician-assisted suicide. Assisted suicide is a crime and a viola-

on of God’s law. This bill will pres-sure doctors to become killers. The lives of the weak, the infirm and the elderly will all be put at great risk. Please top by the table outside a er the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses to sign the Do No Harm California pe on, approved by the California Catholic Bishops Conference, or visit

h p://noassistedsuicideca.org or

h p://www.stgiannaphysicians.org/public_outcry, to voice your opposi on to this terrible threat to the cul-ture of life. There are specific pe ons for doctors and nurses so that the voice of the medical community will be heard in this debate as well.

Spiritual Direc on At Mission Retreat Center

What is Spiritual Direc on? Spiritual Direc on is me spent between two people when one is seeking a path of prayer, self-knowing and no cing God in the midst of daily life. Our God desires us to be in a close, never ending rela onship with Him, in spiritual direc on we are reminded that there is nothing we can ever do that will separate us from God.

What is the role of the Spiritual Director? A Spiritual Director is a companion who is fully present to the directee through deep listening. Someone who is non-judgmental and who is dedicated to crea ng a safe and confiden al space for the one in direc on.

What happens in Spiritual Direc on? We talk about what’s on the directee’s mind, for exam-ple: What is happening in life that separates you from

living into a closer rela onship with God? How is God present or absent in your life? How do you know God’s direc on for your life?

All spiritual direc on sessions are 50 minutes and are held at the Retreat Center of the Mission. Ques ons? Call 760-757-3659.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
