A commercial bush pilot that is focused on flying in Papua New Guinea.

The only one in the world that does the flying, exporting & importing to the cup-coffee

supplier.

Butch Herschman

Butch cupped the different coffees from the areas within Papua New Guinea. The variety that stood out was the wild grown coffee of remote areas.

Its notes are clean and fresh with earth-toned citrus and a nutty chocolate finish!

Page 4: Tribal Authenticity

Ideal growing conditions for this wild rainforest coffee is grown between 3 and 6 thousand foot elevation, with a canopy of fruit trees and cloud covered skies. The canopy includes bananas, cocoa, star fruit and mango. The soil is made of fertile volcanic loam.

This wild coffee is organic by default, because there is no infrastructure to get insecticides, commercial fertilizer and certification to the

regions.

Coffee issues in Papua New Guinea• Valuable resources were rotting! They were rotting,

because the villagers were unable to get the coffee down the mountain to be dried. These villages are very poor and had little or no air service and poor or even no road access.

• Getting the coffee out of these regions. They are surrounded by mountains. The only option of getting the coffee down the mountain is to fly it out in small planes.

• Exporting costs and protocol. The logistical distance to the western world and protocols made it impossible for these villages to make a profit from their coffee.

The vision came full circle when flying coffee out allowed the people in these remote villages the chance to get supplies and services flown in/out.

The journey started with a vision to open up air transportation into remote areas that don’t have any transportation services.

Helping Papua New Guinea

Page 7: Tribal Authenticity

The villages are improving their health and community by sharing their regional natural resources amongst each other. The mountainous villages lack protein such as fish and other sea foods, while the coastal areas lacked the garden vegetables that flourish in the mountains.

Page 8: Tribal Authenticity

For the first time these remote areas have teachers, doctors, medical supplies and medical emergencies flying in and out of these villages. Butch is also teaching local pilots to fly in these near impossible flight situations, so they may continue his mission.
