Five Tips For Beating The Heat While Traveling This Summer On an unbearably hot day in Valencia in the summer, I observed bank temperature readers flashing numbers I never wanted to see while outside. Sweat poured off of every inch of me as I only found relief when buildings with air conditioning would kindly let me hover in their lobbies and storefronts. Battling hot temperatures is just one of the elements travelers must deal with when vacationing in the summertime.

Traveling in the summer has a number of benefits. You don’t have to worry about frigid temperatures impeding your ability to sightsee. Museums and historic sites are open for the masses. Summer nights spent at cozy cafes in a new destination never grows tiresome. However travelers do have to worry about the boiling heat when they travel this time of the year. To ensure your vacation doesn’t have a melt down, follow these tips for beating the summer heat while traveling.

Summer Travel Tips | Lather Up The Sunscreen: Sunscreen can be expensive depending on what part of the world you are traversing. If this is the case, as it is is in Europe, be sure to pack your own sunscreen from home to stay protected on those summer vacations. Nothing can ruin a vacation more than a blistering sunburn, the kind that instills pain even when lifting a mere finger. Travelers should also be sure to check expiration dates on their sunscreen bottles stashed in the medicine cabinet before tossing them in suitcases. Expired sunscreen wouldn’t do you much good on a beach vacation.

Planning a Trip | Pack a Water Bottle: Dealing with the heat while traveling can be hazardous if you aren’t hydrating properly. One of the problems I deal with when I travel in the heat is not having enough water. I always pack a water bottle to make sure this isn’t a problem. I can fill up whenever I see a water fountain. Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to not let the heat beat you when you travel.

Bring Light Colored, Lightweight Clothing:

A suitcase packed with all dark clothing will only make traveling in the heat worse. Pack light colored, lightweight clothing so that the heat doesn’t get the best of you. Tight clothing isn’t practical in the summer. Loose fitting and breezy pieces allow air to circulate around the skin. You might be someone who loves to pack dark colors, but for summer travel, you need to consider surviving in the heat and pack light colors.

Stuff To Pack For a Trip | Research Your Accommodations For A/C: If you are traveling on a budget, you might not have screened just what amenities your accommodations offer. However if you are traveling to a destination where the heat is a problem, you want to be sure air conditioning is available. While you might not think this amenity is important, it can be in certain parts of the world at certain times of the year. Keep Those Drinks To A Minimum: Alcohol does dehydrate, making the heat even harder on travelers. While you might be on vacation and feel the need to imbibe, it is important to keep those drinks to a minimum in extreme temperatures. Travelers can practice a healthy balance of a casual drink coupled with lots of water while on vacation.
