N4 Basics: Logging In

Please ensure you have the minimum requirements to run Navis N4. ie: Java v1.6 installed (or latest version)

To access Navis N4, enter the URL below into your browser or save as a shortcut on your desktop

N4 Basics: Units

To view the Units tab : Select Operations mode > Unit menu > Units

N4 Basics: Saved Filters

• In a list view, the Saved Filters drop-down list displays saved filters

• If the Saved Filters drop-down list displays "--", it indicates that no filter is currently applied to the entities

displayed in the list view.

• The Saved Filters drop-down list displays the name of the applied filter.

• The default tab name is replaced by the saved filter name.

N4 Basics: Wild Card Quick Search

• Quick Search also supports the use of wildcard characters (? and *) to make the search as general or as specific

as you need. You can use wildcard characters to search for a combination of characters that may be preceded or

followed by other characters.

• Required/Mandatory fields are displayed with a green background. Eg. Container Id

• View-only fields are displayed in grey text. Eg. Container Equipment Type

• Optional fields are displayed in black text with a white background. Eg. Truck License Nbr

You may enter the letter "n" in a time field, to specify the current system time.

Date Format

YYYYMMDD

D - Enter one digit and it will be treated as a date with the digit as the day and the current month and year.

+n/-n = X days after the current date / X days before the current date

You may enter the letter “t" in a Date field, to specify the current system date.

• Left click on an attribute to sort by that attribute

• Left click a second time to reverse sorting

• Click and drag to reorder attributes.

• Right click to add new attributes to or remove attributes from the list

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector

• Provides a quick view of many details about the entity

• Can perform certain actions from the inspector

• Used for a variety of entities (containers, visits, etc.)

• Click on Magnifying glass in upper right

• Opens Inspector Launcher

• Enter ending digits of container (at least 4 digits), or full container number. Click OK.

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector – All Equipment

The All Equipment tab displays all pieces of equipment, such as chassis or accessories, associated with the unit. For

example, if a container is the primary piece of equipment in a unit, the All Equipment tab displays the container and

any other containers, chassis, or accessories, such as a gen-set, that you may have bundled or attached with it.

N4 displays a timestamp in the Attached column to indicate the date and time when you attached or bundled the

equipment with the unit.

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector – Routing

The Unit Inspector displays the details of the selected unit and enables you to perform various actions on it. The Unit

Inspector provides a view of all aspects of the selected unit from the perspective of the facility in the current scope.

You can keep the Unit Inspector open at all times as you work in other views and forms, and you can move and resize

it as needed.

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector – Contents

The Hazardous Cargo Details tab displays hazards associated with the unit. You cannot add, edit, or delete hazards

from this tab. To update the hazards associated with a unit, use the Unit Inspector Actions Update Hazards option.

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector – Damages

The Damages tab displays the damages, if any, associated with the selected visit of the equipment, such as a

container or chassis. For example, if multiple visits of the same unit exist, the damages associated with each visit are

maintained separately.

On the Damages tab in the Unit Inspector, N4 displays the damages, if any, for the primary equipment only.

N4 Basics: Unit Inspector – Holds / Perms

The Holds/Perms tab displays the holds/permissions for the selected entity such as a unit. You can add a hold for the

selected entity on this tab.

In addition, you can use the following Actions menu options to:

• Show Details: View the details of the selected hold/permission and the list of events affected by it. You can

also double-click a hold/permission to view the details and the list of events affected by it.

• Grant Permission: Grant the selected permission. You can only grant REQUIRED permissions.

• Release Hold: Release the selected hold. You can only release ACTIVE holds.

• Cancel Permission: Cancel the selected permission. You can only cancel GRANTED permissions.

The History Events tab displays the events recorded for the selected entity such as Unit, Vessel Visit etc.

• Click the Filter button icon

• The filter pane appears.

• In the Filter Criteria block, from the first drop‐down list on the left, select an attribute.

• For example, in the Units view, to create a filter that displays all import containers, select Category from the first

drop‐down list, as shown below.

The On-Board tabs displays the units on board the selected vessel visit.

• The Load List tab displays the units in the yard or pre-advised units that have the selected vessel as the Intended

Outbound Carrier.

• Use the Load List tab to plan the units that must be loaded on the selected vessel.

N4 Basics: Vessel Visits Inspector – Timetable

Timetable tab displays the schedule of the various activities for the selected vessel visit such as:

• PETA - Published estimated time of arrival.

• PETD - Published estimated time of departure.

• Empty Pickup - Date and time when you can pickup empty containers for the bookings relates to the vessel visit.

• Begin Receive - Date and time when the terminal will begin receiving cargo to be loaded on to the vessel.

• Dry Cutoff - Latest date and time that dry cargo to be loaded on to the vessel will be admitted in the terminal.

• Hazard Cutoff - Latest date and time that hazardous cargo to be loaded on to the vessel will be admitted in the terminal.

• Reefer Cutoff - Latest date and time that reefer cargo to be loaded on to the vessel will be admitted in the terminal.

• Labor On Board - Date and time labor can board the vessel.

• Labor Off Board - Date and time labor must leave the vessel.

• Off Port Arrival - Date and time of off-port arrival of the vessel.

• Off Port Departure - Date and time of off-port vessel departure.

• Pilot On Board - Date and time the pilot will board the vessel.

• Pilot Off Board - Date and time the pilot will disembark the vessel.

• Start Work - Date and time work on the vessel will begin.

• End Work - Date and time work on the vessel will end.

To view the Report Definitions window : Select operations mode > Report menu > Report Definitions
