The United States Institute of Peace announces the following changes to its Grant Program, effective October 1,2006:

The Grant Program's Unsolicited Grant Initiative will be open on

the basis of a single application deadline per year. We will accept for

consideration applications that fall within the Institute's general mandate, which focuses on preventing, managing, and resolving violent conflict and promoting postconflict peacebuilding outside

the borders of the United States. The closing date for receipt of

2006 Unsolicited Grant applications is October 1, 2006. Award

announcements will be made by March 31, 2007.

In addition, the Grant Program will launch a new Solicited Grant

Initiative focusing on six countries as they relate to USIP's mandate:

Colombia, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Sudan. Applicants may

apply at any time throughout the year.

Under both initiatives, applicants may seek funding for research,

educational, training, and related projects implemented both in

the United States and abroad, although preference will be given in

the Solicited Grant Initiative to applications that originate in one

of the six designated countries. Nonprofit organizations, public institutions, and individuals in the United States and abroad may

apply for either initiative. More information about both initiatives

is available from the following contact points:
