57 As they were walking along,
someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you
go.”
But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to
live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no
place even to lay his head.”
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
David’s Story 1 Samuel 18:30 Every
time the commanders of the Philistines attacked, David was more successful against them than all the rest of Saul’s officers. So David’s name became very famous.
1 Samuel 18:27 …Saul gave his daughter Michal to David to be his wife.

1 Samuel 21:1-4 (NLT) 1 David went to the town of Nob to see Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech trembled when he saw him. “Why are you alone?” he asked. “Why is no one with you?” 2 “The king has sent me on a
private matter,” David said. “He told me not to tell anyone why I am here. I have told my men where to meet me later. 3 Now, what is there to eat? Give me five loaves of bread or anything else you have.”

21:8-9 David asked Ahimelech, “Do you have a spear or sword? The king’s business was so urgent that I didn’t even have time to grab a weapon!” 9 “I only have the sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah,” the priest replied. “It is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. Take that if you want it, for there is nothing else here.”
1 Samuel 21:9 “The SWORD OF GOLIATH!? There is nothing like it!” David replied. “Give it to me!”

1 Samuel 21:10-1110 So David escaped from Saul and went to King Achish of Gath. 11 But the officers of Achish were unhappy about his being there. “Isn’t this David, the king of the land?” they asked. “Isn’t he the one the people honor with dances, singing, ‘Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”

1 Samuel 21:12-15 12 David heard these comments and was very afraid of what King Achish of Gath might do to him. 13 So he pretended to be insane, scratching on doors and drooling down his beard. 14 Finally, King Achish said to his men, “Must you bring me a madman? 15 We already have enough of them around here! Why should I let someone like this be my guest?”
1 Samuel 22:1 So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam.

Psalms 142:1A Psalm of David, regarding his experience in the cave. 1 I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy. 2 I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. 3 When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me. 4 I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.

Jesus Cites David’s LIE:2 But some Pharisees said, “Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” 3 Jesus replied, “Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests can eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Luke 6:2-4

What David Understood about God: (Galatians 5:6 MSG) 6 For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.

At great personal risk! (22:7)
Even when betrayed! (23:12)
1 Samuel 23:32 David asked the Lord, “Should I go and attack them?” “Yes, go and save Keilah,” the Lord told him.
1 Samuel 23:7 (NLT) 7 Saul soon learned that David was at Keilah. “Good!” he exclaimed. “We’ve got him now! God has handed him over to me, for he has trapped himself in a walled town!”
1 Samuel 23:12 12 David asked, “Will the leaders of Keilah betray me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord replied, “Yes, they will betray you.”
