DaveAsprey: I'mthinkingbackabout,alittlebit,maybe11orsoyearsago.IgotoutofalongtermrelationshipandIwasnotinrealgoodshapementallyaboutit.Oneofmyfriendshadgotteninvolvedinthepickupartistscommunity.Hewasinsane.Hewasnotanattractiveguy.

DaveAsprey: Hewaspickingupdifferentwomeneverynight.Irememberwewentouttosomebarandheliterallywaslike,hereI'llpickoneupforyou.That'snotpossible.Literallyhebringsagirloverwhositsonmylapandstartskissingme.I'mlikewhatplanetamIonbecausethat'snotreallysomethingthatIwould'veevenconceivedofasbeingpossible.Itwaskindofnice,butitwasstillsomethingthatkindofmademego...there'salotofstuffIdon'tunderstandaboutallthis,butmyfriend,manhewasputtingallofhisenergyintopickingupwomen.Hecouldn'tstopalmost.

DaveAsprey: Itwasn'thealthy.Youcouldseeit.Allofhisfriendswhowerealsomyfriendswerelike,he'snotonagoodpath.

NeilStrauss: Right.I'llsay,thepositivesideaboutitis,heyistheresomethingthatyouwanttodointhislife,whynotlearntobebetteratit,whynotlearntounderstandpeoplebetter,howpeoplework.TherearepositivesidesofitaswellandI'veseenalotofpeople...ForexampleIwasjustatabooksigningonthenewbookandaguycameupandhewasaSyrianrefugee.Helosthisentirefamily.HegottoLondon,knewnoone,wasalmostkilledthreetimes.HesaidsomehowIgotyourbookandIreaditandthatallowedmetobuildanewsocialpeergroupandnetworkhere.

DaveAsprey: Youwouldimaginethat.Iknowforme,myabilitytodothatbusinessnetworkingkindofthing,Icertainlydidn'thavereallygoodselfesteemthere.IknewIwasdoingsomecoolstuffwithtech,butitwaslikeIwantedtoseehowthesepeopleweresuccessful.Iwasreallysuccessmotivated.Iwaslike,Iknowthere'sagamehere,Idon'tunderstanditatall,butIreallylearnedsomuchfromthatandfewpeoplewhojustknewhowtonetworkmentoredme.Ilearnedhowtodothat.

That'sdifferentthanthedatingworld,butactuallybusinessanddatingareincrediblysimilar.
