Animal Facilitated TherapyTherapy Animals provide affection and comfort to people in many areas from schools to retirement homes. This class gives you those skills to be able to take the Therapy Animal certification test.

Class consists of two-hour sessions once a week for six weeks. To begin training in Animal Facilitated Therapy, dogs must have prior obedience training and be sufficient in all training areas.

AKC S.T.A.R PuppyFor puppies 8 weeks to 5 months old.

Gain insight into your puppy’s behavior and body language. Establish good social skills and behaviors, while building a relationship with your puppy. Topics covered:• Socialization with people and dogs• Handling at Veterinarian or Groomer• Sit, Down, Stand, and Off commands• Bite inhibition (mouthing)• House training• Other issues and questions that arise during puppyhoodOne hour sessions, once a week, for six weeks.Week 6 will include testing for S.T.A.R. Paws Inn – Level 1For dogs 6 months and older. No previous training necessary.Better control and understand your dog’s behavior in everyday situations. We will expand on basic commands, plus learn some fun new commands. Topics covered:• Behavior problems• Controlled Walking (loose leash)• Front Recall/Finish• Name response• Sit, Down, Stand• Stay with distractions• Work towards Canine Good Citizen certificationOne hour sessions, once a week, for six weeks.

Paws Inn – Level 2(AKC Canine Good Citizen)Level 1 is a prerequisite for this class.

This class expands on Level 1 training by adding more distractions and using games to enforce training skills. Some games we play include hot dog races, “Duck, Duck, Grey Duck,” and a “mock” dinner (with real food!) where your dog learns to display good manners in situations involving food. This fun class also covers the skills needed to complete the Canine Good Citizen certification and includes the CGC test on the last night. Topics covered:• Stays with distractions• Off leash control• Learn to self evaluate current to future training skillsOne hour sessions, once a week, for six weeks.See akc.org/events/cgc for more info.

Paws Inn – Level 3(AKC Community Canine)Level 1 is a prerequisite for this class. Level 2 is recommended.The objective of this class is for you and your dog to be out in the community demonstrating confidence and control. Scenarios covered:• Waits under control while you sit at a table• Walks on a loose leash • Walks on loose leash through a crowd• Stays in small group (3 other people with dogs)• Waits in a group with other dogs while you talk• Remains under control while people approach you

Balance K-9 - For dogs 5 months and older.Must have attended one prior PIR class.Learn about techniques and tools that help with canine fitness. Topics include:• Proper warming up & cooling down• Balance, flexibility, coordination & confidence• Enhancing relationships• Achieving mental focus • Injury prevention for runners and dog sports

(agility, herding, flyball, dock diving, retrieving, hunting, etc.)

• Creating a program that you can do at homeWho would benefit:• Dogs who have extra energy without jobs• Active dogs (in sports)• Hunting & retrieving dogs (help prevent injuries)• Couch potatoesOne hour sessions, once a week, for six weeks.
