This information session will cover the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)-CMS Final

Rule which requires that all HCBS meet certain qualifications for integration and support, enabling

full access to the greater community; promoting individual choice, rights, freedom and independence

in making life choices. This session will additionally cover Person Centered Planning (PCP), an

approach to determining, planning for and working toward the preferred future of a person based on

their strengths, capabilities, preferences, lifestyle and cultural background, as well as key

employment legislation—Workforce Integration & Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Employment First.

DEFINING PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES Danneker Boardroom This training’s goal is to provide participants with the tools necessary to set professional boundaries to create a healthy and productive work environment.1) Understand the importance of boundary setting. 2) Help others to understand your boundaries while respecting and protecting theirs. 3) Learn how to set and maintain boundaries. This course is designed to train parents, group home staff and Direct Support Professionals in basic intervention and prevention techniques. We will review successful strategies to be proactive, reactive and systemic. Throughout the course, the instructors will assist the audience with vignettes and discussion concerning real life situations. Please read carefully, as WRC has a new enrollment policy and procedure for the CPI course:

This class is available for Westside Regional Center service providers only. Those who are not WRC service providers should contact CPI directly to locate an alternative course.

All registration and payment for the course must be completed online no later than 2 business days before the training. We will no longer be accepting checks for our courses and we will not be able to admit you if you have not paid ahead of time. This means no walk-ins will be admitted.

We will be using Eventbrite for registration and payment. The cost of the class is $20 a person. Eventbrite accepts PayPal and all major credit cards.

Upon signing up, you will be contacted by email, to confirm that you are affiliated with a WRC vendor. Please be prepared to provide your organization’s name and vendor number.

If you have not taken CPI since January 2016, you will need to take the full 2-day course instead of the refresher.

Please make sure you sign up for the right class. There are no refunds available.

Course Description: Non-violent crisis intervention is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help professionals provide for the best possible care and welfare of individuals, even during the most violent situations. This course will assist the professional to develop skills in early and appropriate intervention for potential crisis situations while keeping in mind the care, welfare, safety and security of all involved. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, must be physically able to participate, must take a written pre and post-test independently, and must attend all days in order to

PERSON CENTERED PLANNING Danneker Boardroom Person-Centered Planning empowers people with disabilities by focusing on the desires and abilities of the individual. This training will focus on how to develop a team including the individual, family, friends, community members, service providers, and other professionals. ABLE ACT INFORMATION SESSION Danneker Boardroom Julie Eby-Mckenzie from The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) will present on the Achieving

a Better Life Experience Act (ABLE). This new legislature enables individuals with intellectual and

developmental disabilities to save private money without their public benefits (i.e. SSI & SSDI) being affected,

through opening a tax-advantaged savings account. Come out to learn when the accounts will come to

California and how you can start saving for yourself or for a loved one with a disability.

Westside Regional Center will conduct its annual Public Meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 to

present the 2018 WRC Performance Contract. The focus of this meeting will be issues concerning

individuals with developmental disabilities, in conjunction with the regional center’s Performance

Contract with the State of California. The Performance Contract is comprised of goals and outcomes

that are developed as a result of community input. WRC will be disseminating a Performance

Contract survey for the community to provide their input on these goals and activities prior to the

Public Meeting. (Please refer to survey links below.) Self-Advocates, families, service providers,

advocates, DDS and State Council on Developmental Disabilities Representatives and others are

invited to attend this public meeting. We will have limited childcare for children up to 13 years

Are you an individual receiving services from WRC? Want to learn more about self-advocacy? Want to meet others who can support you in advocating for yourself? Want to get your point across and still get your needs met? Or, do you want to encourage, support or teach others the skill of advocating for themselves? If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, please join us. Bring your questions, ideas, bring a friend, we will listen and troubleshoot with you. If you have questions or need more information, please call Linda Butler at (310) 258-4245. Linda, Coordinator of Self-Advocacy for the WRC, will be available for individuals, families, and support staff to come discuss issues of Self-Advocacy. We meet at WRC in the 4th Floor Meeting Room. Take the elevator to the 4th floor and follow the signs to our group!

THE MENTOR NETWORK FAMILY BEHAVIORAL SERVICES FOR WRC FAMILIES

The Mentor’s Network Family Behavioral Services (FBS) offers classes that help families with a child

exhibiting behavioral challenges. Classes introduce and discuss behavioral principles and teach new

skills using practical and individualized examples. Please contact your service coordinator about

details for enrollment. For General information regarding The Mentor Network’s FBS, please

Required Orientation - For Managing Behavior Classes, attendance to an orientation is required prior

to attending any of the classes offered by Mentor Network’s FBS. No appointment or reservation

needed for orientation unless childcare is needed. Childcare is occasionally available for evening

orientations only and reservation is required. Please call Samantha Persoff 424-227-4442 ext. 201 at

least two days ahead to check for availability. Orientations are held are WRC on the 4th floor unless

indicated otherwise.
