defend against possible litigation. It should be used as a powerful teaching and learning tool. Come

and learn how to document in a systematic and thorough manner. Additional topics will include recognizing

the importance of a detailed documentation plan, understanding what should be reported and why, and how

to produce clear and organized incident reports. Presenter: Bernadette Daroca.

LAUSD students, parents and WRC staff are invited to attend an information session on Project SEARCH being held at WRC on 1/23/18. Project SEARCH is a one-year education program placing LAUSD students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in unpaid internships at West LA Kaiser. Interns learn the skills needed to obtain competitive community employment at the conclusion of the program. Mission: Project SEARCH is dedicated to providing education and training to young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through an innovative workforce career development model that benefits individual, workplace and community. May 23 & 24—Wednesday & Thursday; 8:30am – 4:00pm (2 Day Course) CRISIS PREVENTION INTERVENTION COURSE (CPI) Conference Room 4D Please read carefully, as WRC has a new enrollment policy and procedure for the CPI course:

This class is available for Westside Regional Center service providers only. Those who are not WRC service providers should contact CPI directly to locate an alternative course.

All registration and payment for the course must be completed online no later than 2 business days before the training. We will no longer be accepting checks for our courses and we will not be able to admit you if you have not paid ahead of time. This means no walk-ins will be admitted.

We will be using Eventbrite for registration and payment. The cost of the class is $20 a person. Eventbrite accepts PayPal and all major credit cards. Once you receive your confirmation email and ticket, print it out and ensure that the person attending the training brings it with them.

**Important: Upon paying online, please send a follow-up email to [email protected] with the name of your organization, your vendor number and name of the participants you are registering for. Registration is not complete until you have sent this email.**

If you have not taken CPI since January 2016, you will need to take the full 2-day course instead of the refresher.

Course Description: Non-violent crisis intervention is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system

designed to help professionals provide for the best possible care and welfare of individuals, even during the

most violent situations. This course will assist the professional to develop skills in early and appropriate

intervention for potential crisis situations while keeping in mind the care, welfare, safety and security of all

involved. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, must be physically able to participate, must take a

written pre and post-test independently, and must attend all days in order to complete this class. Link to

JUNE June 13 —Wednesday; 1:30pm– 3:30pm

CRSIS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES: CRISIS PREVENTION AND SUCCESSFUL SUPPORT (1/2 IN THIS SERIES) This training will focus on providing caregivers with crisis preventative techniques. The importance of modeling, schedules, and reinforcement systems will be discussed. This forum will provide space for those attending to consult with fellow colleagues and professionals and to discuss effective alternatives for client behavioral concerns. Presented by the Crisis Response Project (CRP), the training is intended for Direct Support Professionals, Administrators, friends, and family members. This is the first session in this quarterly series. The next session, Crisis Intervention Tools & Reactive Strategies will be hosted on 8/23 at WRC. HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES (HCBS) INFORMATION SESSION Danneker Boardroom

This information session will cover the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)-CMS Final Rule which requires that all HCBS meet certain qualifications for integration and support, enabling full access to the greater community; promoting individual choice, rights, freedom and independence in making life choices. This session will additionally cover Person Centered Planning (an approach to determining, planning for and working toward the preferred future of a person based on their strengths, capabilities, preferences, lifestyle and cultural background), Risk Assessment (identifying and documenting safeguards, supports, education and training necessary for individual service planning), as well as the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, Employment First and overview of ABLE Savings Plans (key employment legislation, policy, philosophy and practice). This information session is one hour long and agency providers are encouraged to stay after the first hour for discussion and review of the Provider Self-Assessment Questionnaire and Funding Incentives. CRSIS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP SERIES: CRISIS PREVENTION AND SUCCESSFUL SUPPORT (1/2 IN THIS SERIES) This training will focus on providing caregivers with crisis preventative techniques. The importance of modeling, schedules, and reinforcement systems will be discussed. This forum will provide space for those attending to consult with fellow colleagues and professionals and to discuss effective alternatives for client behavioral concerns. Presented by the Crisis Response Project (CRP), the training is intended for Direct Support Professionals, Administrators, friends, and family members. This is the first session in this quarterly series. The next session, Crisis Intervention Tools & Reactive Strategies will be hosted on 8/23 at WRC. HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES (HCBS) INFORMATION SESSION Danneker Boardroom

This information session will cover the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)-CMS Final Rule which requires that all HCBS meet certain qualifications for integration and support, enabling full access to the greater community; promoting individual choice, rights, freedom and independence in making life choices. This session will additionally cover Person Centered Planning (an approach to determining, planning for and working toward the preferred future of a person based on their strengths, capabilities, preferences, lifestyle and cultural background), Risk Assessment (identifying and documenting safeguards, supports, education and training necessary for individual service planning), as well as the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, Employment First and overview of ABLE Savings Plans (key employment legislation, policy, philosophy and practice). This information session is one hour long and agency providers are encouraged to stay after the first hour for discussion and review of the Provider Self-Assessment Questionnaire and Funding Incentives. This session is open to all staff, providers, individuals and families. WRC ANNUAL TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD FAIR Danneker Boardroom

Join Westside for our Annual Transition to Adulthood Fair on Saturday, May 5th, 2018! Transitioning

to adulthood can be overwhelming and Westside wants to help ease the process by breaking down

information about the available services and supports based on topic. The format of the day will

consist of two session times followed by a third open session. Each session will have a brief

overview of the services and supports available through Westside service providers, our partnering

agencies and generic resources. The remainder of each session time will give individuals and

families a chance to gather resources and speak with vendors who provide services corresponding

to the topics being discussed in each room.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. The event is

free and there is no pre-registration. Please arrive by 9am to sign-up for the two sessions you wish

to attend. Space is limited in each session. Spanish Translation will be available in each Session!

Light refreshments will be served.

THE MENTOR NETWORK FAMILY BEHAVIORAL SERVICES FOR WRC FAMILIES

The Mentor’s Network Family Behavioral Services (FBS) offers classes that help families with a child exhibiting behavioral challenges. Classes introduce and discuss behavioral principles and teach new skills using practical and individualized examples. Please contact your service coordinator about details for enrollment. Required Orientation - For Managing Behavior Classes, attendance to an orientation is required prior to attending any of the classes offered by Mentor Network’s FBS. No appointment or reservation needed for orientation unless childcare is needed. Childcare is occasionally available for evening orientations only and reservation is required.
