At the Inlet Theatre and Galleria, 100 Newport Drive, Port Moody September 6pm to 9.30pm

Conversations & Connections: Enjoy a pre-concert reception with the community and meet with some of BC’s premier Indian Classical Musicians. Attendees will be given a traditional welcome and will have the opportunity to learn about Indian classical instruments & the Raga system. “Conversations & Connections” is about an exchange of cultural perspectives. Some of these accomplished artistes per-formed for President Modi & Stephen Harper on their recent cultural tour to BC. The musicians perform-ing at this concert are; Sunny Matharu, Dr.Tom Hunter, Davinder Singh Namdhari, Sharanjeet Singh Mand, Neeraja Aptikar & Milind Khot.

Ragas & Chai: Indian Classical Music Concert - BC’s Classical Musicians gather to present an evening of Classical Indian Music. The concert will be in solo and combination sets. Experience the sounds of Bansuri, Sarode, Dilruba, Hindustani Vocal, Tabla & Sitar. Complimentary concert tickets will be avail-able at the entrance from 6pm. The concert will start at 7.30pm and will run through to 9.30pm with no interval. Concurrent exhibits and presentations will be running in the galleria till 8.30pm.

100 Year Journey: South Asian pioneers had a tremendous hand in building this great province. In 1974 BC Day was created and was ‘Dedicated to the pioneers who built the colony of British Columbia into the great province it is today.’ The new book, 100 Year Journey, celebrates the History of South Asian Pioneers in Canada. We proudly present the book as part of BC Culture Days 2015 ’Traditional India Series’.

Nobel-Laureate Rabindranath Tagore: The Vancouver Tagore Society presents the literary works of Rabindranath Tagore at this exhibit. Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1931 (7 May 1861 - 7 August 1941), was a poet, novelist, musician, painter and play-wright who reshaped Bengali literature and music and was an influential creative force all over India. The Indian National Anthem is written by Rabindranath Tagore.

‘Unity in Diversity’: This exhibit will feature Indo-Africa Charitable Society’s global projects and medi-cal missions. You will meet some of the volunteers who will share their experiences and challenges of working in rural Uganda and rural India. Enquire about their cross cultural community engagement proj-ects that have inspired local youth, professionals, intellectual and educators. The IACS initiatives have provided a platform of common ground to communities in Canada, UK, India and Africa with a common objective which is to give and serve, ‘Sarva Rog Nidan’ The practice and belief that in the eye of Prakriti (nature) we are all one.

History of Classical Indian Music: This exhibit of Indian Classical Instruments is presented by the local teachers and students from the Pandit Jasraj School of Music. PJSOM is one of the first Indian Classical Music schools to be established in BC. Students and teachers present heritage instruments, the history of Indian classical music and illustrate the ‘paramparas’ (traditions) of the art forms.

Visual Art: TriCity artist Meena Phadkar works in mixed media, acrylics and ceramics, she presents her exhibit of paintings and sculptures that are inspired by India’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.She expresses herself through a wide variety of art styles, including Graphic Design and has designed the publicity material for our Traditional India series.

Love Story with Loom ethniK yarn: In this textile exhibit, Curator Kasturi Guha showcases the art of traditional Indian handloom. Over the centuries Indian silks and cottons have continued to dazzle the world. At ethniK yarn, Indian artisans are celebrated and encouraged to spread the beauty of India’s weaves all over the globe. ethniK yarn is about bringing the world a little closer together.

Komagata Maru & Beyond, South Asian Cultural History: Simon Fraser University Library will hold a month-long exhibition of books, photographs, magazines, novels and other archival materials that docu-ment the cultural history of South Asians in Canada. This exhibit curated by Moninder Lalli, will run through from Sept 7th to Oct 9th. The year 2015 marks 101 years of Indo-Canadians being part of the fabric of Canadi-an Society. The exhibit will be in the entrance level (lobby) of the W.A.C. Bennett Library, Burnaby Campus. Open during Library hours.

Gandharva Loka: Visit the world music store in Granville Island. Experience cross cultural dynamics with Indian and Persian cultures. With it’s warm welcoming atmosphere, you are sure to enjoy this tour. Delyar and David will show you around the store and you will have the chance to try many different in-struments.Please do try the harp chair! The name Gandharva Loka originates from the Bengali language and means,The Abode of the Celestial Musicians. Location: Johnston St, Granville Island Vancouver. Time: 10am - 2pm

Rasa Flow Yoga: Join us for complimentary Culture Days yoga classes. Our classes will give you the experience of authentic Yoga. Rasa is a Sanskrit word meaning “the essence”. The ultimate aim of yoga is to experience “the essence” or “bliss” which is one’s true nature. Over the Culture Days weekend, try classes in Hatha, Yoga Stretch, Gong Bath Meditation, Yin & Kundalini. Free classes at Earth Studio in Port Coquitlam & Water Studio in North Vancouver. Laughter Yoga: HaHaHa, HeHeHe, HoHoHo...laugh your way to good health. Celebrate Culture Days with professional instructor, Purnima Gosavi & local practitioner Malay Kapoor as they guide us through laughter exercises. Discover how the science of laughter helps with feelings of depression & anxiety. Everyone is welcome to join in. Let’s laugh together. Location: Inspiration Garden Coquitlam City Centre, Coquitlam. Time: 11am - 12noon

Open Mic Dialogue: Bring your stories, your instruments, poems, jokes and songs of your soil to share during open mic spontaneous time. This Culture Days gathering will take place after the laughter yoga session. Location: Inspiration Garden Coquitlam City Centre, Coquitlam. Time: 12noon -1.30pm

Shiamak Bollywood Dance at Coquitlam Centre: So what is it about Bollywood dance that gets us wanting to celebrate beyond boundaries? Why do we find ourselves trying to mimic the moves, with our hands in the air, like we just don’t care? Bollywood is very expressive, it’s funky fun and it’s inclusive. World renowned Shiamak Bollywood dance team will get you shimmying, shaking, and jiv-ing to irresistible Bollywood beats. Come dressed to dance Bollywood. Location: Coquitlam Centre. Time: 2.30pm - 3.30pm

Tour of Sikh Temple, Guru Dwara “Gateway to Guru”: At the Ross Street Sikh Temple, you will be greeted by the Temple priest & Mr Ajay. Take a tour of the Guru Dwara, spend some quiet time by the holy Guru Granth Sahib, listen to some Kirtan (prayers) and enjoy Langar (vegetarian lunch). The Khalsa Diwan Society is a pioneer Sikh society formed on July 22nd, 1902. Their Gurdwara was inaugurated on January 19th, 1908. This is believed to be the first Sikh Gurdwara in all of the American continent. Prime Minister Nehru and Indira Gandhi paid a visit from India and recently, Prime Ministers Harper & Narendra Modi visited the temple during their Canadian Tour. Location: 8000 Ross Street, Vancouver. Time: 10am – 1pm.

Temple Tour & Lecture on the Bhagwad Gita: Visit the Hare Krishna Temple, ISKCON, to learn about the Hindu way of life and the principals of the Vedic scriptures. Jaya Govinda will wel-come you with a greeting ‘Hare Krishna ‘which you may repeat. He’ll give you an informa-tive tour of the Hindu arts, sculpture, mythology, and architecture in the temple. You may listen to stories of Krishna and join the Arti (prayer offering) followed by a lecture on the Bhagavad Gita. George Harrison was a well-known devotee of the Krishna Consciousness movement that is cel-ebrated at all ISKCON temples worldwide. Enjoy a Sunday evening vegetarian Prasadam (feast).
