“Supra of Her Own“ - an exibition about gender-based violence against women organized in Georgia in 2014 summer. e exhibition offered a reflection about social invisibility of women’s painful experiences and propose new possibilities of making it public. Supra of Her Own is a colloboration between an art- ist - Tamuna Chabashvili (Georgeia/Netherlands), an antropologist - Agnieszka Dudrak (Poland/ Switzerland), a Georgian NGO (Anti-Violence Network of Georgia), and a grassroots initiative . e exhibition was also hosted 5 days of perfor- mances by Mareike Wenzel (Germany), a lecture by Nadia Tsulukidze (Georgia/Netherlands), and sound unstallation by Eliza Proszcuk (Poland) SUPRA of Her Own In partiarchal societies, many women’s experiences remain invisible, hidden, taboo, or even nameless. e axhibi- tion became a temporary, open space, resembling Virginia Woolf’s a Room of One’s Own, where diverse testimonies of abuse will become visible and open for intepretetation and discussion. Inspired by the traditional Georgian dinner- a supra - orgaizators placed on metaphorical table that which is gen- erally banned from the table - stories of women whoo experienced gender-based violence. e project conceives of supra as something more than a male-dominat- ed and suppressive performance of social norms. e idea that supra can be an impro- vised performance where deep, presonal feel- ings can ve expressed publicly in an atmosphere of hope , of laughter, of creativity and freedom.
