TOYOTA MATERIAL HANDLING EUROPE, MANAGING THE TOYOTA AND BT MATERIALS HANDLING BRANDS IN EUROPE

Experiences with many brands of truck

In the past, BOS logistics tried several differ-ent brands of trucks from a number of suppliers. Whenitwastimetoreplacetheexistingfleet,BOSlogistics invited all the major suppliers to submit their offers. The evaluation was based on different criteria where price, service degree, warranties, truck ergonomics and driver comfort played a vital role in the selection process.

Ole Morten Borgsjø, foreman of the racking di-vision and truck responsible, said ”After we had tried the new BT order picker trucks with refer-ence clients, there was no doubt about what truck the drivers wanted.”

When replacing the old trucks, BOS logistics also decided to give up ownership of the trucks by switching to full service lease. Odd Erik Tømte explains. “In the past we had always bought our trucks, but now we wanted to move most of our fleettofullservicecontract, whichwouldgiveusfixed and predictable expenses”. Our operationwill surely change over time and then we will need ahigherdegreeofflexibilityandhereToyotawasabletoofferfarmoreflexiblesolutionsthanotherproviders.

Fleet managementAnother factor favoring Toyota Material Handling asanewsupplierwasthefleetmanagementsys-tem Toyota I_Site which in Borgsjø’s opinion is the best. The Toyota I_Site system gives users fullcontrolof theirfleet, sothat theycanreduceoperating costs and increase safety and produc-tivity. At the same time, it gives the supplier valu-able information about how the trucks are utilized, what expenses are incurred, etc.

Good experience so farOle Morten Borgsjø says that so far they really appreciate the new trucks and adds that the truck drivers especially appreciate the personal set-tings, which are enabled by a simple push of a button.
