Meeting with the men

More than 40 gathered for the popular Men’s Club Dinner Night. The guest for the evening: new Director of Operations Chet Roshetko, who was introduced by Jeff Bair. Chet shared his background and goals. The meal for the evening: a mouthwatering steak dinner.

Retired Fairchild colonel joins Touchmark team

Retired United States Air Force Col. Thomas F. Roshetko has been named director of operations at Touchmark on South Hill. Thomas, who goes by Chet, will oversee several areas, including the retirement community’s home health program, its resident and building services, and Touchmark’s internationally recognized Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment Program.

“I am honored to be part of the Touchmark team and heritage,” says Chet. “It is an honor to serve our residents who have chosen Touchmark as their home and community. The staff and residents reflect the best part of America—patriots working together to live full lives and make tomorrow better.”

Prior to joining Touchmark, Chet spent 27 years in the United States Air Force, focusing his career on leading operations at medical centers, hospitals and clinics throughout the United States and Germany—most recently as chief executive officer of the 92nd Medical Group at Fairchild Air Force Base.

Chet holds masters’ degrees in Human Resource Management and Strategic Studies as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Chet continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member at Whitworth University.

While away from work, Chet regularly volunteers. He serves as vice chair on the board of directors for the American Red Cross Inland Northwest Chapter and participates as an AWANA leader at South Hill Bible Church as well as a Sunday School teacher and Children’s Church teacher.

Chet and his wife of 25 years, Karla, have a daughter at Liberty University, a son at Ohio State University, and a son and daughter who are homeschooled. The family enjoys the great Spokane area outdoors, Spokane Indians, downtown activities, scouting, and kids’ sport programs. Chet is also an avid reader and student of American history, the Bible, world economy and population, and baseball.

Touchmark Founder and CEO Werner G. Nistler, Jr., (next to window) visited with residents, team members, and guests during a summer happy hour gathering at The Clock.

Happy hour with CEO

Movements rooted in eternity “Thomas Svobada arrived at the nursing home in NE Portland when the cherry trees outside his window were bare. … Now the blossoms have peaked and on a warm spring afternoon they drift onto his shoulders as he sits outside in his wheelchair.”

– David Stabler, reporter, The Oregonian

Thomas is Oregon’s most prolific and performed composer. For the past seven months, he has been recovering from a debilitating stroke that

affected his right side with partial paralysis. It happened suddenly when he and his wife of nearly 50 years were preparing dinner. For weeks, his recovery was slow, but then he began improving, and he continues to make progress. And he continues to move people through his music.

Do any of us plan for this kind of an event? No one I have interviewed ever has. One of the lessons from this heart-wrenching and heartwarming story is that legacy and giving back are the essence of who and what we are—today and tomorrow. Thomas is known as a composer whose music is played around the world, a teacher to a generation of music students, a mentor to scores of composers, an

amazing pianist, and a playful friend.

People move to Touchmark for many reasons. Most will tell you, though, that they wish they had moved here sooner. All appreciate the fullness of life and opportunities for living—and continuing to create—their legacy. Each person has a life story and talents to share, and overwhelmingly residents are optimistic and grateful for the options available at Touchmark.

To find out more about the possibilities of living a {FULL} Life and providing a personal legacy, contact a member of the Full Life team. As Robert Schuller said—and others repeat—“If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”
