Archery as a sport has developed from one of the earliest of mankind's weapons. From simply a

weapon a sport has evolved using many different bow, arrow and target types. 

Target archery, Field archery, 3D archery, Crossbow archery, Flight archery and

Ski archery are but a few of the variations.

There are two major governing bodies worldwide that set the rules internationally the 

World Archery Federation and the International Crossbow-shooting Union (IAU) although

competitions under different rules exist. Most of the world's important events such as the

Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games include the sport and there are many local clubs assisting

those that would like to become involved.
