TORRANCE WOMAN’S CLUB EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING MINUTES July 30, 2014 President Fran Day called the July Executive Board Meeting of the Torrance Woman’s Club to order at 10:05 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 and welcomed all attendees. Members health: we were saddened to hear of the death of Sandra Burchell on Monday, July 28 th . A memorial service is being planned by her family and will be held at the Club on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Recording Secretary, Deanna Hanson read the single motion passed at the June 25 th Executive Board Meeting . The motions passed at this meeting of July 30 th are: Mary Linn moved that the list designating the recipients of $300 each from Game Day proceeds be accepted as presented. M/C. Mary Linn moved that the year end audit reports for both the Club and the Clubhouse accounts be accepted as presented. M/C. TWC will reserve the Clubhouse for the May 15, 2015 Marina District meeting at no charge. M/C. TWC will reserve the Clubhouse on January 24, 2015 for the Marina District fundraiser at no charge. M/C. Barbara Freeman moved that we change the date for the Orientation meeting from October 22, 2014 to October 8, 2014. M/C. Mary Linn moved that we pay our bills in the total amount of $139.74. M/C There were no corrections to the minutes of June 25 th and the minutes stand as posted. Treasurer, Beth O’Gorman presented the report for June, 2014. The balance in the Club Account is $3,734.49. The balance in the Clubhouse Account is $18,087.54 Copies are attached . Beth has requested that we ask for dollars rather than pennies or change for the Pennies for Pines donations to eliminate the burden of counting and “rolling up the coins” for deposit into the bank. 1 st Vice President, Bette Herbst reported on her progress in getting chairpersons at the club level for the various contests that will begin in January. Thus far, Judy Wagner will be the Chairman for the Crafts contest; Joan Earhart will Chair the Photography

contest and Joy Marcon will Chair the Creative Writing contest. Bette will encourage all club members to participate in the contests. The position of Chair for the Young Musicians contest is still open. 2nd Vice President - Membership, Beverly Greeno had no report. 3rd Vice President, House Chairman, Roberta Smith is working on the details for the September meeting. Corresponding Secretary, Fran Glauber read thank you notes from Rainbow Services for our recent donation; from a foster child scholarship recipient and a thank you letter from the family of Natalie DiMercurio for the memorial service held in their mother’s honor. Plans are being made for an annual $2000 scholarship to be established in Natalie’s name from her sons. More information will be forthcoming. Parliamentarian, Barbara Freeman - no report. Ways & Means Chairman, Susan Warner, reported she has collected all monies for the Lawrence Welk theater excursion in September as well as approval for the bus. The group will leave from the pool area near the Katy Geissert Library on September 18th. The Rummage Sale scheduled for January 31st will be chaired by Janet Payne. The Paper Bag Auction will be held at our February meeting. Donna Webb will chair a Bake Sale at the April meeting. GG will work with Barnes & Noble to plan the giftwrap fundraiser in December. Susan will discuss the need for a Fashion Show Chairperson at the September meeting. Fran Day announced that plans are moving forward for the Awards Show Fundraiser on October 25th and encouraged everyone to invite friends and family to this dress-up red carpet affair. Fran Glauber reported on behalf of Judy Burrow that the Las Vegas trip has been cancelled. The trip to the Painted Turtle Camp is scheduled for September 4th and the $5.00 charge will be collected as you board the bus. Fran is working on the 2-For trip to Solvang for 2 hours and then on to Chumash Casino on October 23rd at a cost of $48. Fran is suggesting that we sell Sees Candy in the mid-November, early December timeframe. It appears that we could expect a profit of $2.00 on every order including gift certificates. This will be brought before the membership in September. Newsletter Chairman, Irma Chiota will be on vacation the last two weeks of August and Barbara Freeman will handle the September newsletter in her absence. Reports: Marilyn Keller announced the first Helping Hands meeting will be on September 17th where instructions will be given on huggy bears and quilts as well as the schedule for the year including the fall boutique. Marilyn also reported on the needs of DCFS including items for those who must be sheltered (birth to 18 years) and the

household items for the 18 year olds who are turned out of the Foster Care program to set up housekeeping on their own. Mary Linn moved that we make a donation of $300 each to the following recipients of Game Day proceeds in 2014/2015: June, ‘14 - Rainbow Services July, August and December, ’14 - No Game Day. Sept, ‘14 - Meals on Wheels October, ‘14 - Woman to Woman (TMMC) Nov., ‘14 - Bob Hope USO (LAX) January, ‘15 - Friends of Madrona Marsh Feb., ‘ 15 - Enrichment thru Employment March, ‘15 - City of Torrance (The Attic) April ‘15 - Providence Trinity Care Hospice May, ‘15 - Fisher House Foundation June ‘15 - Blue Star Mothers of America. The motion was carried. Jeri Plum reported there had been a mix-up on one of the scholarship awards and requested that a new check be issued (a stop payment was put on the original check.) Mary Linn moved that bills be paid in the total amount of $139.74 (Lou Schumacher for $76.14 for August newsletter costs; Fran Glauber in the amount of $44 for refunds due for the play (our mistake on the time) and to Beth O’Gorman in the amount of $19.60 for postage.) M/C. Mary Linn presented the year end audit report indicating r the year end figures for both accounts. For the General (Club) Account, we started the year with a balance of $5,012.85 and added receipts of $73,361.66 from which disbursements of $75,389.10 was subtracted leaving a balance as of May 31, 2014 of $2,985.41. For the Clubhouse Account, we started with $12,197.87 to which was added 42,297.50 and subtracting disbursements of 38,400.38 which left a balance in the account as of May 31,2014 of $16,094.99. Mary Linn moved that the audit reports be accepted as presented. M/C. After a discussion with Beverly Greeno, Barbara Freeman moved that we change the date for the Orientation Tea from October 22, 2014 to October 8, 2014 . M/C. Mary Linn moved that the Clubhouse be reserved for the Marina District fundraiser on January 24, 2015 and that the Clubhouse be reserved for the Marina District meeting on May 15, 2015 at no charge. M/C. The meeting was recessed for lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by the annual Budget Meeting that was held from 12:15 until 1:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m. to August 27, 2014.
