HOW? C: DECIDE ON YOUR FORMAT AND MAKE A SCRIPT

WHEN?

DAY 1 – Get together with your group.

Activity A:

Make a group list of topics you want to work on. Say why you think they are important. Discuss different things you could talk about and how you could research it. Choose one topic you all like.

Tell me what your topic is. Every group must do a different topic - so have a second choice too.

Send me an email or hand in this information:

Group name students topics choice # 1 choice #2

Activity B: Please fill out the survey on Media and Computer skills. ( page 8) This will help me and your group to know what you can already do and what you need to learn. Hand in the survey at the end of class.

WHEN?

Day 2 – FINALIZE TOPIC

Activity C: Now that you have your topic:

BRAINSTORM a list of important things to talk about.

Think about things you think newcomers should know to help make their life easier when they first come to Vancouver.

You can include things such as social customs, cultural differences, what to do, how to do it, where to go, where to get help, how to find more information, etc.

Your information can be from: personal experience, things you have learned from other new Canadians, resources for immigrants in centers such as Mosaic, Success, your church, government of Canada offices, the internet, your school, your community center, your friends

There are many resources for you to check out on pages 17 to 29 of this document.

Choose 10 points that you think are the most important.

Put them in order and organize them. They can be in order in different ways: for example - most important, time, big ideas to small ideas, different groups of things, your own organization.

Be sure to include key words and new vocabulary in your presentation if it is important to explaining your point. Do not copy information from pamphlets, websites, brochures etc. Read the information and rewrite it in your own words! Work together and also ask me.

When your list is ready , you will tell me about it with your group. I will ask you questions about your list and why you think the points you have are important.
