Firstly, You Know

You Want One: • After having such a great summer weather-

wise this year in England, I have been on at my husband to get more out of our garden, and so should you! There are around 2 million British homes without gardens so we should make the most of what we have while we have it!

• Having a private swimming pool exudes luxury and joy for me, but after doing some research I have seen that there are plenty of other benefits we can all enjoy too!

Fun &

Relaxation!

• So the main reason I want to get a pool is simply to have fun in it! Being immersed in water and swimming is proven to relax your body and your mind, relieving stress and tensions that build up day to day.

• I love swimming but I always get fed up with all the slow coaches taking up the lanes at my local pool. That and I feel a bit silly if I want to just splash around a bit so it would be nice to be able to lose all those inhibitions.

• By having your own private pool you can just dip in and out, relax on a lilo or chat with friends as much as you like which would make it so much more enjoyable!

• Plus, having your own pool looks (and sounds) so glamorous, you’ll be envied by the whole of your street!

Socialising • Having ventured to my friend’s hot tub on various evenings and having such a good

time it shows you just how much everyone loves a good pool!

• Just imagine on those warm summer evenings having a lovely dip or lounge on a lilo with your friends and a glass of wine (or three!)

• Having a pool doesn’t necessarily have to mean having a wild pool party every weekend (I think I am a bit old for that now!) but it would be a great way to bring a much more exciting element to a lovely Saturday BBQ in the sunshine.

• Plus, with easy heating options you could use it just as much when its not sunny, maybe even all year round if you like!

Fitness • Now despite my husband scoffing at me for this reason, I

genuinely would use my pool for exercise.

• With such a great way to keep fit just in your garden there would be no excuses to keep me away!

• Also, with incredible pool technology now available you could use a counter-current swimming machine which creates a flow of water as resistance to help you work even harder in the pool.

• Swimming is also especially good for those with stiff joints and arthritis, so would be a great way for my husband to work out without putting pressure on his poor knees.

• Other than swimming you can use your pool for other workouts too – working on strength, cardio and muscle tone all at the same time, saving you hundreds of pounds in gym membership fees.

Environmentally

Friendly

• Although this is probably not the first phrase you think of when considering buying a swimming pool, they can be harmless to the environment!

• Despite the controversy over the 1.1 million swimming pools in drought-stricken California, experts have pointed out that by using pool covers, water evaporation can actually be cut in half. This makes them less wasteful than grass!

• By opting to use solar powered heaters as opposed to electricity or gas, not only can you heat your pool with minimal demand on the environment, but you can save money on heating costs too.

Installation • Gone are the days when a swimming pool needed to be

rectangular and robust with standard measurements. Today your swimming pool can easily be designed exactly how you like it (space and cost permitting)

• Swimming pool design seems to be turning into more of an art form than building work these days, with people becoming more and more experimental with their designs.

• Although you don’t have to, it may be better to stay local when getting your pool so that both parties can be as hands on as possible. You can get excellent swimming pool installation in Kent like this gorgeous design to the right.

Maintenance • The main gripe with getting a pool

seems to be the effort of maintenance, but this is an outdated concern.

• With efficient pool filters and a good knowledge of products it can be very straightforward to keep your pool in the best condition. Your pool fitter should be able to point you in the right direction as to what is best to use and when.

• Alternatively there are pool maintenance companies you can employ to keep an eye on things if you don’t have the time yourself.
