  • Product Name: Top Ramen

    Target Group: Adults age 18-25

History: Nissin Foods was started back in 1948 by Momofuku Ando who wanted to create a prod-uct that would help feed the masses in the aftermath of World War II. Ten years later, in 1958, Mr. Ando and Nissin Foods introduced their new product to Japan, Chicken Ramen. Since then, instant ramen has become a staple across Asia and is produced around the world. For many in the US Top Ramen is a quick easy cheap option for a meal. For many college students it can be more of a staple than it is for Asia.

Big Ideas:Because Top Ramen is used so heavily by young low income individuals, Nissin should have a packaging design that appeals to younger audiences. For too long the packaging for Top Ramen has been dull and boring and has changed very little over the years. I want to create a new packaging design that is attractive and up-to-date.

For this redesign the package will be changed from a plastic wrapper to a box. This will make the product more stackable and storable and will give it a level of class that will make it stand out from the rest of its competitors. This box design will also be more envi-ronmentally friendly than plastic which will attract green thinkers. If an attractive design can be created and the new box idea is well marketed the new pack-aging will increase sales among the target demographic. When a poor student is looking for a cheap option and has the choice between an attractive Nissin package and some other boring competitor the idea is that their desire for more modern products will drive them to

  • Logo:

The only thing I did to this logo was vectorize it because I felt that the classic traditional Nissin logo should stay with the new updated look. Just because you are changing the look of a product doesnt mean you have to change the look of the whole company, and people will better identify the product if it keeps its original logo.
