increasingly becoming a designer affair. Nikita Chopra asks the experts top 4 trending wedding

décor trends.

1 Floral ImpressIoNsFlowers are definitely an integral part of all our celebrations, and more so in weddings. The type

of flowers used may change to keep in sync with the season, but flowers have always been a constant element of our weddings.

Bhavnesh Sawhney, Director at Wedniksha, believes floral innovations are one of the major trends of weddings in 2015. “Flowers and floral decor is a big part of both Indian and western weddings, and this coming year we shall see a return of the floral décor in a different variation. Previously we were accustomed to see just the traditional orange gendha flower or roses. In 2015 we will see a lot of non-traditional flowers like gladiolas, gerberas, bird of paradise etc… even at the pre-wedding functions,” he said.

2FusIoN oF Two worldsWith influences from the west, people are increasingly taking cues from white

Christian weddings and enhancing the look and feel of their own wedding functions. An increase in inter cultural marriages has also fanned this trend. It is a natural amalgamation of east with the west, which reflects on the décor.

Sawhney from Wedniksha says, “Indian weddings are known for their bright, bold, and loud accents of colour. However this trend is changing and soon we shall see Indian Weddings incorporating Western elements like soft, gentle

ceremony, technology has played a significant role in making these moments larger than life. It would be safe to say that our big fat Indian weddings are actually incomplete without at least some technological show.

Shyam and Kalash Kalra, Founders of Knots and Hearts say, “Laser shows at weddings are a great way to depict the story of the couple. They make for a good show with great design and animated story. Other stunning elements include hydraulic setups from 10 feet height, helicopter entry of the couple at the wedding venue, flower dropping on the couple by a helicopter.”

Well, if these sounds too over-the-top, digest this – fingerprint guest book, where guests imprint their finger prints on their arrival at the wedding to mark their presence. That later is transformed into a colorful family tree attendance sheet. Creative and innovative photo props, pluck cards and place cards for photographic memories are also making debut at weddings.

Wisteria is a theme, which Neelabh Kapoor, Creative Director of Studio Neelabh says, will be one of the ruling themes for weddings in the year 2015. “It’s a marriage of tree branches with a waterfall of orchid covered roofs. This Japanese originated tree has one of the most amazing flows of flowers by which this theme is inspired with. Whimsical, Dreamy, covered with flowers from top to bottom, are just some of the forms of Wisteria. It provides a very surreal effect to the decor. Wisteria can be combined along with a lot of cages hanging from the roof with ferry lights embedded with crystals in it. It is one of the most beautiful Wedding decor themes. With Banyan Roots, creepers and orchid filled rooms; Wisteria leaves all the guests with a fairy tale feel,” he says.

pastel colour palettes. It’s like an East meets West combination. So get ready to see mixtures of bright orange, pastel pink, royal purple, sky blue and more.”

Wadhwa of weddingplz.com slightly deflects to say that instead of replacing the loud and bright colours with soft hues of western weddings, people are actually looking at increasing that tone and then add contrasting tone of soft colours to have best of both worlds. “The latest trend is that of fusion of both the worlds together. Where bold will contrast with soft in the most appealing and enchanting way,” he adds.

4Theme weddINgsThemes add the fun element to weddings. The themes can vary from being colour coded,

even including the décor and food in the same theme, to a fairytale set up, or a retro recreation.

“Forever in vogue, theme weddings have a charm and appeal of their own. Themes ranging from Mughals to Rajputanas to Ethnic or Modern play a vital role in adding charm to the wedding. Themes are most prevalent in Destination weddings. Themes can vary like love theme with red and white colored lights or use of bright colored lights with different colored cloths,” says Manas Wadhwa.

Sawhney adds that says that a lot of focus in 2015 will be on matching the décor with the theme. “Indian Weddings are known for their elaborate pre-wedding functions. In the coming year, each of these functions such as the Mehendi, Sangeet, Roka etc. will be detailed, themed & customized. For example, sangeet night could be a Casino-themed night, where the décor could be made up of Poker chips, Playing Cards and all. The theme can be incorporated in the décor as well, like customized mini buffets, bars, and special gift bags for guests, themed invitations and a lot more,” says Sawhney.
