The Indian FMCG sector with a market size of US$13.1 billion is the fourth largest sector in the economy. A well-established distribution network, intense competition between the organized and unorganized segments characterize the sector. FMCG Sector is expected to grow by over 60% by 2010. That will translate into an annual growth of 10% over a 5-year period. It has been estimated that FMCG sector will rise from around Rs 56,500 crores in 2005 to Rs 92,100 crores in 2010. Hair care, household care, male grooming, female hygiene, and the chocolates and confectionery categories are estimated to be the fastest growing segments, says an HSBC report. Though the sector witnessed a slower growth in 2002-2004, it has been able to make a fine recovery since then.

For example, Hindustan Levers Limited (HLL) has shown a healthy growth in the last quarter. An estimated double-digit growth over the next few years shows that the good times are likely to continue.

Growth ProspectsWith the presence of 12.2% of the world population in the villages of India, the Indian rural FMCG market is something no one can overlook. Increased focus on farm sector will boost rural incomes, hence providing better growth prospects to the FMCG companies. Better infrastructure facilities will improve their supply chain. FMCG sector is also likely to benefit from growing demand in the market. Because of the low per capita consumption for almost all the products in the country, FMCG companies have immense possibilities for growth. And if the companies are able to change the mindset of the consumers, i.e. if they are able to take the consumers to branded products and offer new generation products, they would be able to generate higher growth in the near future. It is expected that the rural income will rise in 2007, boosting purchasing power in the countryside. However, the demand in urban areas would be the key growth driver over the long term. Also, increase in the urban population, along with increase in income levels and the availability of new categories, would help the urban areas maintain their position in terms of consumption. At present, urban India accounts for 66% of total FMCG consumption, with rural India accounting for the remaining 34%. However, rural India accounts for more than 40% consumption in major FMCG categories such as personal care, fabric care, and hot beverages. In urban areas, home and personal care category, including skin care, household care and feminine hygiene, will keep growing at relatively attractive rates. Within the foods segment, it is estimated that processed foods, bakery, and dairy are long-term growth categories in both rural and urban areas. Ten FMCG Companies

FMCG sector is an ever growing sector and is currently in a boom phase. There are many jobs in FMCG sector at diiferent levels like sales, supply chain, manager, operations, purchasing, supervisor, administration, general management, product development, HR, Finance and marketing. FMCG sector is famous for jobs that are not only well paying but also gives the best perks and bonuses. Freshers are looking for jobs in FMCGsector as these jobs will give them the best career in the industry.S. NO. Companies

Company profile of Procter & Gamble:

Procter & Gamble Co.(P&G,NYSE:PG) is aFortune 500Americanmultinational corporationheadquartered inDowntownCincinnati,Ohiothat manufactures a wide range ofconsumer goods. It is 5th inFortune'sMost Admired Companies 2011 list.P&G is credited with many business innovations includingbrand managementand thesoap opera.

Procter & Gamble is a leading member of theU.S. Global Leadership Coalition, a Washington D.C.-based coalition of over 400 major companies andNGOs that advocates for a larger International Affairs Budget, which funds American diplomatic and development efforts abroad. William Procter, a candlemaker, andJames Gamble, a soapmaker, immigrants from England and Ireland, respectively, who had settled earlier in Cincinnati, who met as they married sisters, Olivia and Elizabeth Norris, formed the company initially. Alexander Norris, their father-in law, called a meeting in which he persuaded his new sons-in-law to become business partners. On October 31, 1837, as a result of the suggestion, Procter & Gamble was born.

In 1858-1859, sales reached $1 million. By this point, approximately 80 employees worked for Procter & Gamble. During theAmerican Civil War, the company won contracts to supply theUnion Armywithsoapandcandles. In addition to the increased profits experienced during the war, the military contracts introduced soldiers from all over the country to Procter & Gamble's products.

In the 1880s, Procter & Gamble began to market a new product, an inexpensive soap that floats in water. The company called the soapIvory. William Arnett Procter, William Procter's grandson, began aprofit-sharingprogram for the company'sworkforcein 1887. By giving the workers a stake in the company, he correctly assumed that they would be less likely to go onstrike.

The company began to build factories in other locations in the United States because the demand for products had outgrown the capacity of the Cincinnati facilities. The company's leaders began to diversify its products as well and, in 1911, began producingCrisco, ashorteningmade ofvegetable oilsrather thananimal fats. As radio became more popular in the 1920s and 1930s, the company sponsored a number of radio programs. As a result, these shows often became commonly known as "soap operas".

India's IT Industry:Information Technology is one of the most important industries in the Indian economy. The IT industry of India has registered huge growth in recent years. India's IT industry grew from 150 million US Dollars in 1990-1991 to a whopping 50 billion UD Dollars in 2006-2007. In the last ten years the Information Technology industry in India has grown at an average annual rate of 30%.

The liberalization of the Indian economy in the early nineties has played a major role in the growth of the IT industry of India. Deregulation policies adopted by the Government of India have led to substantial domestic investment and inflow of foreign capital to this industry. In 1970, high import duties had forced IBM to leave India. However, after the early nineties, many multi national IT companies, including IBM, have set up their operations in India. During the ten year period 1992-2002, the Indian software industry grew at double the rate as the US software industry.

Some of the major reasons for the significant growth of the IT industry of India are

Abundant availability of skilled manpower

Reduced telecommunication and internet costs

Reduced import duties on software and hardware products

Cost advantages

Encouraging government policies

Some of the major companies in the IT industry of India are -

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

Infosys

Wipro

IBM

HP

HCL

Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS)

Patni

Satyam

NIIT

India's IT industry caters to both domestic and export markets. Exports contribute around 75% of the total revenue of the IT industry in India. The IT industry can be broadly divided into four segments -

IT services

Softwares (includes both engineering and Research and Development)
