A Brief Introduction

My entire life has lead me to this point. I have grown up with a pencil in my hand and developed an interest in several art forms at an early age. As I matured and began to explore the world, I grew a pro-found appreciation for the beauty of natural and built environments. Through my educa-tion, I have learned the importance of proper integration of buildings in nature, and nature in buildings. I believe all buildings can improve the environment and enhance the experience of life. My goal is to leave behind buildings that work in harmony with nature and will last to benet users and communities for genera-tions to come. I am passionate about bring-ing positive energy, focus and coordination to a team atmosphere.

Bordeaux, FranceDesigned by Rem KoolhaasUse: Residential

This is Maison A Bordeaux, one of my favourite residential buildings. The unique structure creates the appearance that the top oor is oating and simultaneaously gives the main oor an amazing 360 degree view. The one of a kind structure (Fig 1.4.) that supports the top oor of concrete is made of 3 components: an o center cylinder (also a spiral staircase), one beam below the concrete and a second beam on top of the concrete with a cable attached to a large counterweight below the surface of the yard (Fig 1.5.). Another interesting feature is the elevator lift (Fig 1.6.) which served as an oce, a light shaft and vertical transportation for the disabled owner.

FRANKFURT, GERMANYDesigned by Norman FosterUse: Commercial

This is the Commerzbank, it is one of my favourite towers because of the creative use of the atrium and sky gardens in the triangular shape. The building features three-story sky gardens that rotate around the central atrium and create a garden view for each and every oce in the building (Fig 2.7.). Every aspect of the building impresses all the way down to the panoramic washroom view (Fig 2.3.).

Merida, Ucatan. Designed by Tony AtkinsUse: Residential

The site currently holds two individu-al residences which will be combined into one. It was important to have movable partitions in order for the property to serve multiple functions and to have the ability to transform for a variety of occupants, activities and even time of day.The idea behind my design was to have an open concept throughout the house with as much light and air as possible, using wood to close the window or fold up and act as a shade (Fig 3.4., Fig 3.5.). Folding glass in the dining areas allows indoor spaces to transform into open air outdoor spaces. This exible design allows each half to be private and functional. Howev-er, when hosting guests, the parti-tions transform all the outdoor spaces into common spaces, easy for every-body to enjoy.

HOWE SOUND, BC, CANADA Designed By Tony AtkinsUse: Residential

This house was designed to accomodate two families living as one. The main advantage is this home features two master bedrooms and extra spacious common areas to accomodate large numbers. The main inspi-ration for my design was Frank Lloyd Wright ‘s opening corner window (Fig 4.2. & Fig 4.3.). Excluding the recreation room on the bottom oor, every south facing room features a corner window that allows each space to open up to the beautiful view of the Howe Sound coastline.

Vancouver, BC, CanadaDesigned by Tony Atkins & Laura MowbrayUse: Mixed: Residential, Com-mercial, Retail

The design was a result of a restricting FSR and a much larger allowable building space. To take advantage of this, the building was designed to have as much usable outdoor area as possible. The penthouse suites feature both front and back private outdoor spaces and an open air walkway that invokes the feeling of a private town-house condominium. Finally, the top oor features a common garden with a stone waterfall and mulitple seating options.

At the center of our design is the Grand Atrium Lobby. Direct-ly across from the entrance of the Atrium is a green wall with a waterfall that draws you into the vast three story atrium space. The Atrium is made up of tall windows, clerestories and a skylight. The design of this building was inuenced by the traditional Japanese Tori Gate which sym-bolizes a transition into a sacred area. We chose to use an abstract of a Tori Gate to give signicance to the entrance into dierent spaces. We used a large dramatic gate over the main entrance into the Atrium/Lobby. We also used it on the roof to create more private, peaceful areas.

I have grown up using a pencil to reproduce images that inspire me; now I use hand sketches to organize and create the images, plans, eleva-tions and details that help develop new ideas and concepts when designing buildings.

In 2009, I picked up the paint brush for the rst time with intent to create something beautiful. I began to develop my own techniques and style for watercolour and oil painting.

Today, painting is an important part of my life. I spend much of my free time painting oil colours at my home easel. When on the road, I never leave without bringing my waterco-lour paints to capture the beauty of nature as I see it.
