Today’s Guest Author Mrs. Beth Vallee TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2012 – SUMMER READING ACADEMY, EL VERANO About the Author: Beth Vallee is a reading teacher at Prestwood School. She has always loved to draw with pens, pencils, and brushes, and WORDS. Over her many years as a teacher, Beth has always taught through storytelling. The book she wrote, "Monarch Summer," is a true story from her childhood that Beth tells when she begins teaching about life cycles of various creatures. "Monarch Summer" is a picture book with two intertwining stories. The characters are two girls - Beth and Shauna - who are fascinated with watching the life cycle of Monarch Butterflies in a small field in their neighborhood. They spend long, happy hours in the field, climbing trees and enjoying friendship. Their summer adventures end when Beth's family moves across town. But another adventure begins with Shauna's going away gift to her friend- a Monarch caterpillar.
