Gobardhan Yojana is the scheme to convert the cattle dung and solid waste into manure and
bio gas.
The aim of the scheme is to ensure cleanliness in village and generate energy from converting
solid waste into compost and biogas

India and Malaysia joint military exercise Harimau Shakti 2018 begins in Malaysia.

Union Cabinet has given its nod for extending Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana by another 2 years till 2020.
PMSSY is a centrally sponsored scheme aims to correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to enhance facilities for quality medical education in India.
Cabinet also approved plan to set up 20 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across India.
2.2018 Varuna Naval Exercise.
India and France conduct final phase of Varuna naval exercise near Reunion Island, a French
Administrative department in Indian Ocean.
3.World Press Freedom Day.
World Press Freedom Day is observed on May 3 to create awareness of the importance of freedom
of Press.

1.Green Revolution – Krishonnati Yojana
The Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod for continuation of umbrella
scheme of Green Revolution – Krishonnati Yojana in Agriculture secotor beyong 12th five
year plan
The umbrella scheme comprises 11 scheme which aims to develop the agriculture and allied
sector in a holistic and scientific manner to increase the income of farmers.
It also aims to enhance production, productivity and better returns on produce to the
farmers.
The 11 schemes are
1. Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)
2. National Food Security Mission (NFSM),
3. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA)
4. Submission on Agriculture Extension (SMAE)

1.WHO guidelines on Daily calorie.
World Health Organisation has released the guidelines for the daily intake of Calories.
As per the guideline adults and children should consume maximum of 10 % if Saturated fat
and 1% in Trans fats.
This guidelines aim to controlling the non-communicable disease which are responsible of
39.5 Million deaths worldwide.
Saturated Fatty Acid found in butter, Meat, Milk, egg yolk and more.
Trans fats are found in industrially processed foods from vegetable, fish oils (fried potatoes ,
junk foods ..) and also found in meat and dairy products.
2.Western Ghats and Monsoon – TN
Researchers have found that dense vegetation in Western Ghats determines the amount of
rainfall during summer monsoon in Tamil Nadu.
They are pitching that there should be urgent steps to stop deforestation.

Punjab Government along with World Wildlife fund – India has started first organised census
on Indus Dolphins population.
Indus Dolphins found only between Talwara and Harike Barrage in India’s Beas River in
Punjab.

China launches communication satellite APSTAR-6C with the help of its long march 3B rocket from
the Xichang space base in southwest China.
5.Liang Rui
China’s Liang Rui set new world record in 50 km racewalk finishing the race by 4:04:36s.
The previous record was 4:05:56 set by Inez Henriques last year.

1.Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency(TEDA)
TEDA aims to promote the use of new and renewable source of energy and to promote
energy conservation , Research and development activities.
Some of the important Renewable Energy projects undergoing in Tamil Nadu are
50 MW Solar Power project in Kayathar, Thoothukudi, 170KW Solar Power plant in Irumbai
,Villupuram, 95KW Solar Power Plant in Kakalur, Thiruvallur.
2.SWASM
Chennai Metro Water has planning to rejuvenate 2 waterbodies in Vilinjiyambakkam and
Madambakkam, to meet the growing water needs of Chennai under the project SWASM.
Sustainable Water Security Mission (SWASM) is a Tamil Nadu government initiative to
restore water bodies and encourage people to conserve freshwater across state.

Tamil Nadu State Government has merged the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust
(GOMBRT) with Wild life Division of Ramanathapuram.

Experts says that merging with Wild life division could affect the conservation efforts.
Gulf of Mannar is the first Marine Biosphere Reserve of India declared in 1989, which is in
Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu.
4.Van Dhan Vikas Kendras.
Ministry of Tribal Affairs proposed to expand Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in Tribal district across
India.
Van Dhan Vikas Kendras established to provide skill up gradation and capacity building
training and setting up of primary processing and value addition facility for the tribals
depends of Minor Forest Produce (MFP).
Van Dhan Vikas Kendras was first established in Bijapur, District of Chhattisgarh.
The Van Dhan Vikas Kendras will play an important role in improving Socio-economic
development of tribal involved in collection of Minor forest produce(MFP).
5. $200 million Loan for POSHAN Abhiyaan
India has signed $200 Million Loan agreement with World Bank for National Nutrition
Mission –POSHAN Abhiyaan.
The aim of the POSHAN Abhiyaan is to address the malnutrition through Convergence, Use
of Technology and a Targeted approach
About POSHAN Abhiyaan.
POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International
Women’s day (March 8 2018) in Jhunjhunu , Rajasthan, to boost nutrition among children
and women.
It targets to reduce stunting , under nutrition, anaemia.
It also targets to reduce the low birth weight by 2% per annum.
It also targets to come down stunting among children in 0-6 years from 38.4 % to 25% by
2022.
6. 3rd edition of UNPCAP
The 3rd Edition of United Nations Peacekeeping Course for African Partners (UNPCAP) held in
New Delhi .
It is conducted by Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping in India in partnership with the
US, the Indian Army.
It aims to build and enhance the capacity of African Countries Troop contributing to United
Nation.
7.Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

India and Kuwait has signed to amend the existing Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement
(DTAA).
It will update the provisions in Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement for exchange of

1.15th Finance Commission constitutes an Advisory Council
The 15th Finance Commission constitutes an advisory council to advise and assist on its terms
of reference.
In November 2017 N K Singh was appointed as Chairman of 15th finance commission.
About the Finance Commission:
As per Article 280 of Indian Constitution, President will establish Finance commission every
fifth year or earlier as he thinks necessary.
Finance Commission is a Quasi-judicial body and the chairman will be appointed by
President.
The main aim of Finance commission is to distribute or allocate the net proceeds of taxes to
be shared between Centre and States.
Till now 14 finance commission has been constituted.

Investment Board Nepal (IBN) has given licence to Satluj Jala Vodyut Nigam Power

India and Guatemala has signed an agreement for expanding cooperation in the area of Diplomatic
training.
4.15th Asia Media Summit
15th Asia Media Summit to be hosted by India in New Delhi from May 10-12, 2018 with the
theme of “Telling Our Stories – Asia and More”.
It is an annual summit of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) Kuala
Lumpur, which will encourage regional and bilateral dialogue and cooperation to respond to
challenges to the broadcasting sector.

Telangana government has launched investment support scheme for farmers under the
name Rythu Bandhu (Farmers Friend).

1.Prompt corrective action on Dena Bank
Reserve Bank of India has initiated prompt corrective action on Dena Bank due to high non-
performing loans and restricting not to give fresh loan also not to hire any new personnel.
What is Prompt Corrective Action (PCA).
PCA is an RBI System in which it will take corrective action against the Indian Banks when
the Bank’s financial conditions worsen below certain limits.
For this RBI has given certain threshold limit to the banks and RBI will intervene when the
banks financial condition worsen below certain limits.
The limits are based on CRAR (Capital to Risk weighted Asset Ratio), NPA (Net Non-
Performing Assets) and RoA(Return on Assets).
If the PCA implemented then there will be halting branch expansion, limiting lending limit,
stopping dividend payment, audit, restructuring operation and may RBI can supersede banks
board.
In April 2017 RBI has revised its PCA Framework . Till now 10 Indian banks namely United
Bank of India, Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, UCO Bank,
Corporation Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dena Bank IDBI Bank and Indian Overseas
Bank came under PCA.
PCA is applicable only for commercial bank , it is not applicable for co-operative banks, non-
banking financial companies (NBFCs) and Micro finance Institutions (MFIs).

Researchers has discovered World’s 2nd oldest rock Odisha and oldest rock in India.
The rock contains grain of magmatic zircon which is estimated 4,240 million years old.
4.India, Nepal bus service under Ramayana Circuit theme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off bus Service from Nepal's Janakpur to Uttar
Pradesh's Ayodhya under Indian Government’s Ramayana Circuit Theme.
Ramayana circuit is one of the 13 tourism circuit under Swadesh Dharsan Scheme.
Ramayana Circuit is an effort to promote religious tourism.

1.ISRO’s Green Propellant
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is in progress on making environment-friendly
green propellant to power satellites and spacecraft.
It will help to replace the hydrazine rocket fuel which is highly toxic and hazardous chemical.

Indian Meteorological department is planning to deploy 30 Doppler radars across India .
Doppler radars help to predict information about thunderstorms, dust storms, hailstorms,

1.Athikadavu - Avinashi project
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that TN government will implement
Athikadavu - Avinashi project by its own, if there is no support from Centre.
Athikadavu - Avinashi project aims to recharge ground water level as well as solving drinking water
problem, by channelling the surplus water from Pilloor Dam (Athikadavu) during monsoon season to
all the dry regions of Coimbatore, Erode mainly in Avinashi and Perundurai.
About Athikadavu-Avinashi Project:
During monsoon seasons because of extensive rainfall in Niligirs District, River Bhavani gets
extensive rainfall which cause excess of water to reach Pilloor Dam located in Athikadavu in
Melur reserve forest Range, Coimbatore.
But the High and Dry areas of Coimbatore lack rainfall, so there was excessive bore well
digging and erratic pumping of water by the population.
Due to this water table in the region has gone down tremendously from 600 to 1500 ft
below the level.
So to get back the water level in dry areas, Athikadavu - Avinashi project is going to
implement by channelling the surplus water from Pilloor Dam (Athikadavu) during monsoon
season to all the dry regions of Coimbatore, Erode mainly in Avinashi and Perundurai.
Once the Project get implemented , it would recharge back the water table from Deep 1500
feet to just 50 feet from the ground level.

Scientists say the emission of banned ozone depleting chemical are in raise also said it is

Emission of Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) II has climbed 25% since 2012.
When a hole formed in Ozone near Antarctica, Countries are agreed to phase out the several
types of ozone-depleting chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) under 1987 Montreal
Protocol.

2.National Policy on Biofuels – 2018
Union Cabinet has given its nod for new National Policy on Biofuels 2018 which allows
surplus food grains production now can be used for producing Ethanol.
The new policy has expanded the scope of raw material for producing ethanol allowing use
of Sugarcane Juice, Sugar Beet, Sweet Sorghum, Corn, Cassava, damaged food grains like
wheat, broken rice, Rotten Potatoes, unfit for human consumption.
Farmers are not getting the appropriate price for the Food Grains during surplus production.
Considering this, new policy allows use of surplus food grain for production of ethanol for
blending with petrol with the approval of National Biofuel Coordination Committee.
It helps to improve the Farmers Income, Import Reduction, Employment Generation, Waste
to Wealth Creation.
3.National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation
Union Cabinet has given its nod for establishing National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation
In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
4.WHO’s REPLACE campaign
World Health Organisation has launched the initiative called “REPLACE” step by step plan to
countries to eliminate trans-fat in foods by 2023.
5.Integrated Centre for Crisis Management
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the Integrated Centre for Crisis
Management at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
It helps the country to respond more effectively to chemical, biological, radiological and
nuclear emergencies.

India has emerged as the Third Solar Market in the world in 2017 behind China and US.
India has doubled the solar installation in 2017 by 9.6 GW comparing to 4.3 GW installed in 2016.

with Ramjet Liquid propellant.
First stage will gives the supersonic fast and get separated and then 2nd stage will take
missile closer with 3 Mach speed.
BrahMos can travel thrice the speed of sound with the target range of 290 km and can be

India receives the First Cargo of UAE Crude oil to Filling up strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)
caverns built by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Ltd (ISPRL) at Mangalore.
It was a part of agreement under which Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will store
5.86 Million barrels in India under Strategic Petroleum Reserve programme.
According to agreement India can use entire oil reserve stored in Mangalore SPR during
