Selected Works I 2011-2014 Tiziano Derme

  • Tiziano Derme his architectural master degree with honours at University of Rome La Sapienza, previ-ously he studied in ETSAM Universidad Politecnica Madrid (Spain), Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University (India ) and TSINGHUA University (China). Researcher for CRR (Rome research centre) on Smart Cities and Development of Open Source manufacturing systems in Archite-cure. Invited young Architect for the OPEN HOUSE 2012 pavillion in Rome. Tizianos body of work range among Architectural Design Computing, Electronics and solid-state material science. Since 2013 Tiziano has been working onseveral research projects between Paris and Bangkok for New-Terriotories Istitute for Contingent Scenario- Francois Roche. Tiziano is currently developing with the partnership of New-Territories a robotic process to bend for Bamboo, automating the construction of an architectonic structure. On 2014 co-founded Quayala Synthetic Environments Bio-Lab based in Bangkok ( Thailand ) focused on Architecture as material practise, fabrication and Applications of Nano-composites materials

Quyala I Synthetic Environments is a Laboratory based in Bangkok which conceive architecture as material practise. We conduct researches at the intersection of computational design, digital fabrication, materials science and synthetic biology and apply that knowledge to design across scales from the micro scale to the building scale. We create biologically inspired and en-gineered design fabrication tools and technologies and structures aiming to enhance the relation between natural and man-made environments. My research field, entitled Spectral Behaviours, integrates computational bacteria design strategies and Bio-Fabrica-tion techniques. This design approach enables the mediation between objects and environment; between humans and objects; and between humans and environment. Our goal is to enhance the relation between natural and man-made environments by achieving high degrees of design customization and versatility, environmental performance integration and material efficiency. We seek to establish new forms of design and novel processes of material practice at the intersection of computer science, material engineering, design and ecology, with broad applications across multiple scales.

  • 9The idea of having a space permeable exploits as much as possible two conditions: the proximity to the sea (the particular situation Cli-matic of the isle ); the presence of a large pine forest as a filter vari-able during the day and night. A vocation to the perfect swing, the vibration of wind when you touch a branch. A facade aligned with the outer, inlet filter, a privacy made through the smell of pine trees. The relationship among the houses is controlled by an algorithmic, who provide to regulate the high and distance for each on the ground. The module is designed for 6 people maximum, even if in fact it can be considered at same time two families, parents and children and the grand father family .Just one used by a family, but designed for two families simultaneously. A space living room and big kitchen will allow the family to dine together, the rooms each independent for each member, a kitchen and bathroom for each marriage. Differ-ent lifestyles require different privacy, environments so they remain separated from each other. In the case in which it was necessary a certain unit, it ensures the family to be reunited and live togheter .The house, a cube of two floors, where the core is surrounded by a corridor that has a height greater than two times the rest. This outdoor area is also the tunnel that connects all rooms and at the same time represents an area able to mitigate the breeze from the sea towards the interior. This creates a continuous gradient be-tween the space Outside, the intervening space and private space.

    LIVING ALEUTIAN

The first step of our design process consisted in a bioclimatic anal-ysis. This objective definition of the framework was then integrated into a more subjective approach of space and uses in order to es-tablish the architectural scheme that will guide the design process throughout the development phase. In order to reach maximum living comfort and a sense of well-being even despite the reducedsurface, a flexible and functional furniture system will be used. Cer-tain kind of use, which are not required at the same time in everyday life , are accommodated on the same surface. The living space is designed to be open. But there is still the possibility of creating more privacy by masking off the private spaces. The architectural conceptis also reflected in the interior. Each one of the modules offers its owns possibility of use or a characteristic piece of furniture. The space is made a coherent whole by a homogenous, plain design. The furnishings are attractive of their flexibility, innovative character and user friendliness. The furniture is constructed of sustainablelight-weight building boards. So it becomes considerably lighter, which is especially important for being able to move and transport it. The surfaces of the furniture consist of white HPL (high pressure laminate).

    SUMMARY_

The folly, traditionally conceived as an ornament, extrava-gance or even expression of a passing crush is here thought and designed to convey abstract concepts directly linked to the society and to its contemporary evolution. Overthrowing bow represents the subtle line that divides artifi ciality and nature, society and individual, to be intended, in this place, as a network of relations in which the various subjective ex-periences are the bulk of a new model of architecture. A model, where a distributed and ineffable logic of situations and experiences bring the user to multiple interpretations and replace a centralized mentality only capable to highlight a single viewpoint or thought. Essential grove catalyzes the attention to the condition of the mankind and to its evolution, projects the imaginary to the nature and to the hybrid role it
