Chapter 1. Tivoli Workload Automation libraries

Tivoli Workload Automation comprises several separate products available for avariety of operating systems. Some publications are cross-product but most applyto just one product. Accordingly, the publications are organized into the followinglibraries:

“Tivoli Workload Automation cross-product library”This library contains all cross-platform and cross-product publications forTivoli Workload Automation.

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler distributed library” on page 3This library contains all of the publications that refer to the use of TivoliWorkload Scheduler on distributed operating systems (operating systemsother than z/OS®).

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS library” on page 5This library contains all publications that apply only to IBM® Tivoli®

Workload Scheduler for z/OS.

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications library” on page 6This library contains all publications that apply to IBM Tivoli WorkloadScheduler for Applications.

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler Plug-in for Informatica PowerCenter library” onpage 7 This library contains all publications that apply to the Tivoli Workload

Scheduler Plug-in for Informatica PowerCenter.

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler LoadLeveler library” on page 7This library contains all publications that apply to IBM Tivoli WorkloadScheduler LoadLeveler.

“Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Virtualized Data Centers library” on page 8This library contains all publications that apply to IBM Tivoli WorkloadScheduler for Virtualized Data Centers.

Tivoli Workload Automation cross-product libraryThe following publications in the Tivoli Workload Automation library containinformation which is common to all products, operating systems, and components:

Overview, SC32-1256Provides an overview of all Tivoli Workload Automation products, and theway they can be used together to provide workload management solutionsfor your whole enterprise.

Developer's GuideYou can both drive and extend the Tivoli Workload Automation products.Three publications are available:

Driving Tivoli Workload Automation Scheduler for z/OS, SC32-1266Tivoli Workload Automation includes a programming interface(PIF) and the application programming interface (API) that you usefrom other z/OS or S/390® applications to interface with TivoliWorkload Scheduler for z/OS.

Driving Tivoli Workload Automation, SC23-9608This describes what is available to the developer in TivoliWorkload Automation to drive Tivoli Workload Scheduler andTivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS (by means of the z/OSconnector). The developer uses the Java™ API and the Web ServicesInterface to manage objects in the database and the plan. It alsogives an overview of how to install and use the Eclipse-basedIntegration Workbench (also known as SDK). The SDKdocumentation explains how to create and develop API projectsand gives full reference to the Java classes and methods available, but because the Web Services Interface is used outside SDK it isdescribed in full in the publication.

Extending Tivoli Workload Automation, SC14-7623This describes what is available to the developer in TivoliWorkload Automation to extend Tivoli Workload Scheduler andTivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS (by means of the z/OSconnector). The developer uses Java plug-ins to create customevent conditions and actions for event-driven workloadautomation, and custom job-type plug-ins to allow the definition inthe Dynamic Workload Console and composer of job types notsupplied with the product; these plug-in also includes an agentpart which runs the jobs. It also gives an overview of how toinstall and use the Eclipse-based Integration Workbench (alsoknown as SDK). The SDK documentation explains how to createand develop and implement the plug-in projects and gives allnecessary reference to the Java classes and methods you need touse.

IBM Redbooks: Integrating IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler with TivoliProducts, SG24-6648

Abstract: This IBM Redbook explains the benefits and technical merits ofintegrating IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Distributed and IBM TivoliWorkload Scheduler for z/OS with other IBM products. Scheduling is amission critical process for any company. However, when you talk aboutscheduling, you are really talking about an ecosystem. In this ecosystem, each solution is a building block that adds value to the overall solution. With IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, you can collect and add data to andfrom each component. In addition, expanding the scheduling ecosystem toinclude monitoring, management, help desk, storage, and business systemsmanagement provides greater value.

This book discusses all these integration points and provides detailedscenarios on how to integrate IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler with thesetypes of applications. Because workload management is widely consideredthe nucleus of the data center, there are numerous opportunities for you tointegrate IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler with other products. This bookaddresses just some of these many opportunities. In terms of integrationwith IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, do not limit yourself to the productsthat this book discusses. Integration points discussed in this book shouldgive you an idea of the potential value that IBM Tivoli Workload Schedulerintegration can provide for your company.
