The  experience  begins  as  friendly  and  courteous  employees  greet  the  patrons  as  they  enter.  Customers  can  let  the  daily  stresses  melt  away  as

Being  one  of  the  first  spas  and  salons  to  serve  alcohol,  clients  can  indulge  in  a  Chocolate  Kiss  Martini  or  one  of  Tipsy’s  Signature  Cocktails  as  they  get  a  manicure  or  pedicure.    

Music  lovers  can  watch  the  latest  music  videos  on  the  6  Plasma  screens  located  throughout  the  salon.

Time  for  a  change  

Lighting  is  one  of  the  most  important  components  in  creating  the  ultimate  spa  and  salon  atmosphere.  

Owner  Barry  Biondo  stated,  “Our  clients  and  staff  began  to  comment  about  the  heat  emitting  from  the  halogen  track  lighting  in  our  salon.  It  created  an  uncomfortable  environment  and  the  yellow  light  from  the  bulbs  produced  a  false  hue  when  coloring  hair.  The  track  heads  also  did  not  provide  enough  direct  light  when  either  cutting  hair  or  doing  a  manicure  or  pedicure.”    

LED  lighting  makeover  

To  solve  the  drawbacks  of  poor  and  inadequate  lighting,  it  was  essential  to  provide  the  right  LED  lamps  for  the  project.  

Throughout  the  salon,  several  key

locations  were  experiencing  dark  spots  and  shadows  due  to  failing  bulbs.    

Tipsy’s  lighting  mainly  consisted  of:    • 20  PAR30  Halogen  bulbs  at  75-­‐

Watts  each    • 6  Incandescent  floodlights  at  65-­‐

Watts  each  • 18  MR16  Halogen  bulbs  at  50-­‐

Watts  each  

The  LED  lighting  experts  at  LED  Source®  worked  with  Barry  to  ensure  that  all  of  his  lighting  requirements  were  met.  After  a  thorough  evaluation,  the  new  Toshiba  E-­‐Core  LED  lamps  were  the  product  of  choice.    

The  LED  lighting  retrofit  consisted  of:    • 26  PAR30  4000K  lamps  at  16-­‐

Watts  each    • 16  MR16  lamps  at  7-­‐Watts  each

The  savings  

Prior  to  the  retrofit,  Tipsy  was  utilizing  2790-­‐Watts  in  lighting  energy.  With  the  new  LED  lighting  now  only  consuming  528-­‐Watts,  this  has  resulted  in  a  savings  of  80%  in  their  lighting  energy  costs.
