Tips from a Car Locksmith: Protecting Yourself from Car
Theft
The last thing you want is to walk out
of work at the end of your shift or
your house in the morning only to find
that your vehicle is gone. Not only is
this entirely frustrating, but it is quite
frightening as well. Your mind starts
going a million miles a minute trying
to figure out what went wrong and
how you could have prevented your
car from being stolen. Here are a few tips to prevent your vehicle from being
snatched out from under you when you least expect it.
Avoid putting spare keys close to your car. Unfortunately, many people
opt to put a spare underneath their vehicle just in case they do get locked
out. Thieves are going to look here first, so having your key there is a
welcome invitation to a would-be thief. It’s far better to call upon a
locksmith than it is to have your vehicle stolen out from under you.
Avoid leaving windows down. Regardless of whether it is the middle of
summer and a blazing 100 degrees outside or not, you should never leave
the windows down when you aren’t inside of the vehicle.
Always have the car off. If you aren’t inside of the vehicle and waiting for
someone else to come out, your vehicle shouldn’t be left running. Anytime
the vehicle is started, someone needs to be inside or standing close by to
make sure it is safe and secure.
Never leave the doors unlocked. Thieves are always going to check your
door handles. If the doors are unlocked, they are going to hop inside and
start working their magic with the wires. Lock your vehicle at all times,
regardless of how safe you think the area might be.

Never park in a dark area. Always part someone where there is a lot of
light. A dimly lit area is a welcome target for a thief. They are able to hide
out of sight and break into any number of cars without being detected.
When your vehicle is underneath of a light, they aren’t going to chance it for
the fear of getting caught.
In following the tips above, you can make sure your vehicle is right where it
is supposed to be when you need it. It doesn’t take a lot of time and effort
to make sure your vehicle is protected.
