The International Camel Derby

It is a spectacular festival of the North Easter

Nomads packed with a variety of events and dis-

play of traditional local dancing alongside the ma-

jor event of camel racing.

Lamu Cultural Festival

The festival is a colorful combinational of tradi-

tional dances, indoor and outdoor cultural activi-

ties and an exhibition of Lamu’s rich material cul-

ture. Maulidi is the biggest of the Lamu’s annual

festivals held every third month of the Muslim

calendar. The event which is a celebration of

prophet’s Mohammed birth is crowned with tradi-

tional Swahili dances from neighboring Islands,

traditional dhow races, bao games, donkey racing,

henna painting and many more.

The Migration – Starting beginning of July

and continues through to October

'The Migration' the 8th wonder of the world,

thousands and thousands of animals crossing the

Mara River in frenzy to avoid the jaws of croco-

dile providing a thrilling game viewing that makes

you hold your breath. The wildebeest give birth

on the open plains of the southeastern Seren-

geti, where annual rains from about November to

May produce a rich growth of lush grasses. How-

ever, these grasses soon dry and the wildebeest

are forced to move west across the Serengeti,

and then northward into the Masai Mara, in

search of grazing land. In essence, the wilde-

beest follow the rains and the associated lush

grasses. In doing so they generate one of the

most spectacular wildlife spectacles in the

world: From July to August nearly 2 million ani-

mals move across the open dusty plains of the

Masai Mara in seemingly never-ending droves.

The herds turn around and disperse southward

back into the Serengeti in October and Novem-

ber.

A safari is perfect for those with a sense of adventure. It gives
