    The Four Common Preliminaries

    dang po gom ja dal jor rin chen di thob ka jik la da re don yo jaMeditate first upon this free and endowed precious human existence, so difficult to obtainand so easily destroyed. From this moment on make it meaningful.

    nyi pa no chu tham che mi tak ching go su dro waitse sok chu bur dranam chi cha me shi tse ro ru gur de la cho kyi phen chir tson pe drubSecond, everything is impermanent, environments and their inhabitants. The life force ofbeings in particular, is fragile as a bubble. The hour of death is uncertain, and when itarrives we become nothing but corpses. Because the dharma is the only help at that time,practice with diligence.

    sum pa shi tse rang wang mi duk war le ni dak gir ja chir dik pa pangge wai ja we tak tu da war ja zhe sam nyin re rang gyu nyi la takThird, at the time of death there is no freedom, due to our former actions karma.Therefore, abandon harmful deeds and devote the time always to virtuous action.Contemplating in this way, examine the midstream daily.

It is like the feast presented by theexecutioner as he leads one to the execution ground. Having cut the shackles ofattachment, accomplish enlightenment with diligence!

    semchen tamch dewa dang dew gyu dang denpar gyur chikMay all beings have happiness and the cause of happiness

    dak gi mal dedak tamch laTo every single one of you, I bow in homage;

    l dang ngak yi dangw chak gyi oDevotion fills my body, speech and mind.

    zangpo chp mnlam tob dak giThrough the power of this prayer, aspiring to Good Action,

    gyalwa tamch yi kyi ngnsum duAll the victorious ones appear, vivid here before my mind

    shying gi dul ny l rab tpa yiAnd I multiply my body as many times as atoms in the universe,

    gyalwa kn la rabtu chaktsal loEach one bowing in prostration to all the buddhas.

    chema purma rirab nyampa dangExquisite garments and the most fragrant scents,

    kpa khyepar pakp chok kn gyiPowdered incense, heaped as high as Mount Meru,

    gyalwa dedak la ni chpar gyiArranged in perfect symmetry.

    chpa gang nam lam gya chewaThen the vast and unsurpassable offerings

    dedak gyalwa tamch la yang mInspired by my devotion to all the buddhas, and

    zangpo ch la dep tob dak giMoved by the power of my faith in Good Actions

    gyalwa kn la chaktsal chpar gyiI prostrate and offer to all you victorious ones.

    shyen gyi mitub d kyi pung jompaUnconquerable by others, you vanquished Mra's hordes,

    ser gyi lhnpo tabur jip kuYour physical form resplendent, like a mountain of gold.

    shaky gyalpo khy la chaktsal loTo you, the King of the kyas, I pay homage!

    lama tnpa chomdend deshyin shekpa drachompa yangdakpar dzokp sangye palgyalwa shakya tubpa la chak tsal lo ch do kyab su chi oSupreme guru, bhagavan, tathagata, arhat, complete and perfect Buddha, gloriousconqueror, Shakyamuni Buddha, to you I pay homage! To you I make offerings! In you Itake refuge!

    Then, as a means of invoking his wisdom mind, recite as many times as you can the following dharani, which is

    taught in the abridged Prajnaparamita:

    Then recite, as many times as possible, the same mantra from om onwards:

    OM MUN MUN MAHA MUNAY SOHAOM MUNE MUNE MAHAMUNAYE SVAHA

    During all this, bring to mind the Buddhas qualities and, with a mind full of devotion, concentrate one-pointedly onthe clear visualization of his form. Then, through the power of uttering the names of the Buddha and reciting his

    dharani, imagine that:

    tnp ku l yeshe kyi zer natsokp nangwa chenp dak dang semchen tamch kyidribpa tamch sal shyingFrom the Buddhas body there emanates a great radiance, of multi-coloured rays of wisdomlight, dispelling all our own and others obscurations,

    tekpa chenp lam gyi ynten tsulshyin du ky t chirmidokp sa nnpar samAnd causing all the genuine qualities of the Mahayana path to arise within us, so that weattain the level of perfection from which we will never return again to samsara.

    dik drip nyey tung dak par dzey du solNegativity, obscurations, misdeeds, and downfalls!

If you recite this prayer every day, the length of yourlife, your splendour, renown, and wealth will all increase, you will find perfect happiness, you will accomplish your

    aims exactly as you wish, all harmful actions and obscurations will be purified and all your wishes for higherrealms, liberation and omniscience will be fulfilled. These are the words of the Buddha himself.

    This prayer arose from the lake of Jampal Gyep Dorjes mind on the third day of the third month of the FireMonkey year (1896), an auspicious time according to the configuration of planets, sun and constellations.

Samayagya.This terma, on Vairotsanas robewith Yeshe Tsogyals handwriting, was found in the holy place at the right corner of Sengchen Namdrag cliff. Theterma, under that jewel- heap-like rock, was publicly discovered and brought to light by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa,

    a great treasure revealer and manifestation of prince Mirub. Immediately then, Padma Garwang Lodro Thayetranscribed it without mistake. May it increase virtuous activity and happiness.
