EduCaTION & COmmuNITy THSH Education & Community department offers a wide range of creative opportunities, inspired by the magnificence of our world-class venues. People of all ages are invited to engage with our buildings and artistic programme through participatory projects and events.

We invite, engage and inspire over 10,000 people a year through monthly children’s events, projects in family, school & community settings, venue and exhibition tours and the Patrick Music and Multimedia Studio.

The Education & Community programme is developed and delivered in partnership with various organisations and through consultation with participants. Project Managers have a particular focus on children and young people, community engagement and disability and inclusion and use their expertise to develop high quality programmes of work.

SpOTLIGHT ON… THE SHEd

THE SHED is THSH’s multimedia project based at Symphony Hall in the Patrick Music and Multimedia Studio. A weekly creative multimedia programme introduced last year, the pilot phase of the project gave us an opportunity to test the water to see what young people thought about the programme that our Education department and team of specialist artists could offer.

The scheme has been hugely successful and very popular, seeing many young people develop in confidence while learning many new transferable skills.

Over the summer we have listened to the feedback that the young people have given us about their experiences of THE SHED and have used this to influence the new programme which started this October.

The scheme now gives SHED participants aged 11-24 the opportunity to work towards and obtain a bronze Arts Award during weekly multimedia sessions. Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people to develop as artists.

Doing an arts award will help the participants to develop their creative skills which could help them into further education or employment in the arts or other fields in the future.

Please note that there are steps up to the Stalls and Circle but a lift is available. The Stalls have flat access to all seats and generous space between rows. Patrons who need to remain in their wheelchairs during the performance can book spaces in the Stalls and the Side Circle. There are accessible toilets on all levels.

SympHONy HaLL

All levels are accessible by lift, but there are steps within the auditorium on all levels, including the Stalls – please ask when booking if you need flat access to your seats.

Areas for patrons who need to remain in their wheelchairs during the performance are located in the Stalls (and for classical concerts are

also available in the Upper Circle). There are accessible toilets on Level 3 (Stalls) and Level 5 (Upper Circle).
