Officer recommendations for elder and deacon candidates for the class of 2016 may be submitted May 1–31. As you prayerfully consider your recommenda-

tions, please reflect on 1 Timothy 3:1–13, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4 as the biblical basis for qualifications. Men who are chosen must meet the qualifications as summa-rized from the Book of Church Order:

Qualifications of an Elder (BCO 8-2, 3): He that fills this office should possess a competency of human learning and be blameless in life, sound in the faith and apt to teach. He should exhibit a sobriety and holiness of life becoming the Gospel. He should rule his own house well and should have a good report of them that are out-side the church. (The elder is) to watch diligently over the flock, that no corruption of doctrine or of morals enter therein.

Qualifications of a Deacon (9-2, 3): It is the duty of deacons to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. To the of-fice of deacon, which is spiritual in nature, shall be chosen men of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly spirit, warm sympathies, and sound judg-ment.

A screening committee composed of elders, deacons, and laity will interview the men recommended and consider their qualifications before submitting a list of potential officer candidates to the Session for approval to stand for election in 2012 after a year of training on the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Bible, the Book of Church Order, and officer specific books.

The Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, June 5 at 10:40 am (between services) in the Sanctuary for the purpose of electing deacons and elders for the class of 2015.

Nomination forms are available at the Informa-tion Center, in the church literature racks, and

at www.pcpc.org. Please consider the following as you make recommendations:

z Ask the individual you want to recommend if you have his permission to submit his name. If permission is not received in advance, please do not recommend that individual.

z Remember that all church officers who have served previously are eligible to serve again, but they must be recommended again.

z You must be a member in good standing of PCPC in order to recommend an individual.

z Wives should not recommend their husbands. Children should not recommend their fathers. Parents should not recommend their sons.

z At the time of the recommendation, a candi-date for church office must have been a mem-ber in good standing at PCPC for at least two years.

Please return completed recommendations to the Information Center or send them to Sally Rogers via one of the following methods:

Beyond the Rapids by Evelyn PuertoBeyond the Rapids by Evelyn Puerto is the true story of a Ukrainian pastor and his family's steadfastness during a time of great religious persecution in a communist culture. Pastor Brynza suffered himself and watched his children's struggle with acceptance and ostracism and finally choose to be faithful to their God.
