Coming Home...

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord...” is the best quote from Scripture and our Blessed Mother that comes to mind to ‘sum up’ my past four months of sabba cal rest. Your prayers for me truly made a difference as daily I felt the Holy Spirit invigora ng my heart, mind, and body. Now, a er this graced me of rest and renewal, I am quite excited to return with even greater dedica on and zeal to serve you and celebrate the sacraments with you.

Having had so much opportunity for self-reflec on and me in prayer, I realize more than ever how much I love being a priest and being your pastor. Interes ngly, this realiza on came to me most clearly in this res ul me of simply being a ‘human,’ without being ‘in charge’ of an-ything or rushing from one event to the next. In a sense it was a sab-ba cal of ‘being,’ of mindfulness of God’s beauty, mercy, and grace. I’ve learned to slow down a bit. I hope I can bring some of that Spirit’s peacefulness into my ministry with you.

To be honest, I have not prayed this much since I le the semi-nary! And I realize how much I want to nurture that sense of prayer-fulness in our parish, with less ‘doing’ and more me with God. We already have a great prayer life at St. Clare. I simply want to help each parishioner to discover new ways to enjoy more quiet me with God...in the midst of all the ‘busy-ness’ around us.

As you can imagine, these past two months in Australia have been quite different from the earlier por on of my sabba cal me spent in Europe. I look forward to sharing the highlights with you in the near future through homily stories and parish gatherings.

I am so very grateful to our parish staff and volunteer leaders who have kept the parish running smoothly and prayerfully during my ‘sabbath rest’ me. It shows how visible the Holy Spirit IS in each and every bap zed person!

I really look forward to celebra ng my first weekend back with you on November 22-23, for the great feast of Christ the King.

God’s Peace, Fr. Jim Deiters

MARK:

The Gospel of Ac on

Presented by Fr. Tom O’Valle, OMI

Monday, December 15

7:00-8:30 pm Fellowship Hall

The evangelist Mark’s words to the early Chris-ans were intended to be a source of strength

and support as they faced intense suffering, even persecu on, because of their belief in Jesus. The Word of God through Mark was for them, and for every genera on of believers, a source of comfort and hope.

In this session we will review this shortest of the Gospels. We will rapidly walk with Jesus and Mark, so that we may come to realize that in whatever suffering we might endure because of our faithful discipleship, Jesus has been there and goes before us. If we remain faithful, we shall see Him at last.
