is a great foundation for artists. I concentrated in painting at Auburn, but looking back it was a clay construction class that really determined the course of my life. I discovered I could sculpt and I got to know the professor, and the projects we’ve done together continue to be the most professionally rewarding collaborations of my career.”

“All of the classes I took in the journalism field taught me so much about deadlines, real world experience, what to expect, how to write a feature article, and how to take pictures and work in the dark room. I probably couldn’t have taken those big steps without having the confidence and the real training that I received at Auburn.”

“My goal is to use my legal education to work with international adoptions and human justice. My advisors have helped me navigate through the planning process of my undergraduate degree as I move forward to graduation and law school, and the college has enabled me to spend a semester studying abroad in Spain. I’m so thankful that, even at a large public research institution, I can have a personal relationship with my professors and advisors, who genuinely care about my education and goals.”

“Any time I get a phone call from somebody who says, ‘I’m from Auburn,’ I give them a moment to tell their story, and it’s usually a pretty good one. Once you become part of the Auburn family as a student, I think it’s natural to want to go back and keep those connections and those roots because the leaders of tomorrow are the students there today.”

“I feel like I got a well-rounded, great education here, and I still have notes from some of those classes. I actually learned more con (constitutional) law here at Auburn for the short time I was in it as I did in law school.”

“I have never been so wonderfully challenged academically, and I can tell a marked difference in my perspective of the world and myself, as well as an even greater motivation to succeed. For the first time in years, I am doing work which leaves me feeling fulfilled and valuable. Upon graduating, I plan to pursue graduate studies in clinical child and health psychology.”

“Acting actually translates more than you might imagine. The ability to relate, or at least seek to understand, to poke beneath the surface of people and situations is what I do all day, every day. [My path] wasn’t easy, it wasn’t even entirely intentional (at first), but if you find there is something you are naturally good at and people want to pay you to do it, pay attention.”

— Laura Halperin,‘97, Executive Producer of "Bridezillas" (Theatre graduate)

With over 4,200 students majoring in our academic disciplines, the college of liberal arts (cla) is one of the largest colleges at auburn University. students have the comfort and the opportunity to find their place within our 13 departments and numerous minors and programs. cla offers the core framework for students across the university and provides them with a foundational education that proves beneficial in the global market, amongst fellow students, and ultimately in a fulfilling career.

our vision for the 2013–2014 calendar was to highlight all the departments housed in the college and emphasize just a few of the career choices awaiting our graduates from each department. We also wanted to expand upon our motto, “find Your Place,” through photos and individual experiences from students, faculty, and alumni.

With over 300 careers listed in this calendar, it is safe to say that cla students will succeed in every endeavor they put their hard work, determination, and of course, their liberal arts education towards.
