I currently am teaching Language Arts and Social Studies to fifth

graders in Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, which is located about 30 minutes south of the Poconos.

Within our Social Studies curriculum, we spend a great deal of time teaching about the early colonization of America. As part of our studies, we take a field trip to a town very close-by called Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Bethlehem is rich in history. But, upon our first field trip to Bethlehem with our fifth graders, it became glaringly apparent that many of them were unaware of this historical gem lying just outside of their town.

I have created this presentation to use with my fifth graders as a background building activity to be used prior to our field trip in Bethlehem. This activity will be used as a learning center where students can independently work and interact with the collection of primary sources I have found throughout my research.

Enjoy!Alyssa
