Brunei’s which gave him no choice but to surrender Labuan to the British.3. Students should be able to identify the impact of the loss of Labuan on Brunei.4. Students should be able to be involved in the class activity.

-Teacher starts with recalling previous lesson.i.e. the British attacked Brunei.

Lesson Development(1hr 20 mins)

-Show the map of the empire of Brunei in the early 19th century and the map of Brunei focusing on the island of Labuan.-Explain the reason why British interested in Labuan

-Explain the tactic used by Captain Rodney Mundy to pressure Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien II to cede Labuan.-Explain how James Brooke was appointed as the first Governer of Labuan.-Group discussion.(1 hr)

Teacher will divide students into groups 4-5. Instructions and materials (illustration) will be

given to each group. Each group will give a story line from the

illustration with the supervision from the teacher. Students are allowed to use their own ideas/imaginations (10 mins).

Each group will present their work before the end of the lesson. (5 mins each)

-At the end of the lesson, groups will submit all their work to the teacher.

Closure(5 mins)

Teacher will summarize and highlight the important points of what have been learnt today by doing some de-briefing and by asking students questions
