THE PRESIDENT’S KEY NOTES

Hello Ladies, Happy 2017! We have had a good 2016. Those who worked with the Garden Party really set a new, high mark for us. I had to delete the order for Flower Power, for by the time I could get the order in, many of the bulbs were out of stock. I was also short of time to call everyone and redo the orders. So ladies, I fell short with Flower Power this year, and I apologize for this. See me at the meeting about this if you had an order. January is the month that our yearly reports are due and The Arts Festival is at Windsor Point. Bring your reporting to the meeting about your time for Woman’s Club and any money or donations you have made. If anyone would like some help I will be at the Mill on Wednesday 1/4 at 7:30 upstairs. I can help you fill out the form. I hope you have art work to put in the show. Please check with Martha Smallwood and the rest will be in the newsletter. Also, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. is the memorial service for Dora Schwartz. Her husband is Dave Schwartz and his address is 105 Country Mill Way, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526. Please try to attend this service at the Methodist Church on Judd Parkway. Finally, how exciting to be part of a growing and interesting women’s group. Our programs have been wonderful this fall, and we shall enjoy more for the next five months. In the spring we have our major finance project with our Box Lunches. Our end of year social meeting will be at a local restaurant in May. Thank you for being a part of the oldest organization for women in Fuquay-Varina. Keep reaching for those stars!

Committee Members: Linda Cromwell, Rachel Cornet, Mary Daniels, Gloria O’Connor, Dot Mays, Debra Semple, Nancy Randolph, Jahmi Wunsch

The Arts Festival will be Jan 14-15 at Windsor Point. Let’s have 100% participation this year. We will also have flyers for everyone to post around town. Please have your art entries to Windsor Point on Friday, Jan 13th by 3:00. Judging will be Saturday morning at 8am. This is a fun and useful way for all members, new and old, to become involved. There is much to do to get ready, and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

The signup and food donations are at these links below. Please try and remember to sign in for your time and how much you spent on the food. Just trying to get a better handle of what we really do.

Email: Martha Smallwood if you still want to sign up for food and to volunteer for some time during the weekend. [email protected]

Conservation – Chair: Bev McDougall & Vicki Cardin

Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro has public tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Go on line to purchase tickets. Please continue to bring your toilet paper and paper towel rolls to meetings. The staff at CTR wants as many as we can collect. If you would like to tour the Center, email me, [email protected] and we can set a time for a public tour in January. Meals on Wheels in Fuquay-Varina needs volunteers to deliver meals locally. Call Maggie at 919-552-5825. She can schedule you to help with a local neighborhood. Please bring plastic grocery bags to our meeting for MOW.

Home Life – Chair: Barbara Kennedy & Peggy Reynaud

Happy New Year to all. We are going to have a Candle decorating class for Easter. Look for more details to come. Keep those men's toiletries coming along with cleaning products and soaps and shampoos.

Education – Chair: Dot Mays & Shirley Simmons The Education CSP met jointly with two members of the GFWC Jr. Club to interview four candidates for Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarships. Three attend FVHS and one is a senior at Harnett Central High. The choice to represent the FV Woman’s Club is Ashley Darroch . She is first in the class of Seniors at Harnett Central High School this year and very deserving of our aid. Her parents are Hank and Kristey Darroch. Ashley has been accepted in the PA school at Campbell University. She has already been shadowing and volunteering in the hospital there and also in Cape Fear Family Medical Clinic.

Our January Project is

Our 2017 Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Goal for Operation Smile is $240. Operation Smile

believes every child suffering from cleft lip or cleft palate deserves exceptional surgical

care. For more than thirty years, Operation Smile and GFWC members have worked

together to provide free surgeries for these children, as well as care and comfort during

their treatment. A child’s cleft lip or cleft palate can be repaired for as little as $240 and in

as few as 45 minutes, but it’s more than a surgery. Your support gives renewed hope to

children and families around the world. G
