When we started our Wedding Ring adventure on Vancouver Island several years ago, we started off with a dual mandate. One was to bring attention to local wedding venues, talent and vendors here on Vancouver Island. The other was to bring international attention to Vancouver Island as a wedding destination. We feel that both are being accomplished through what has turned out to be serendipitous circumstances.

We would first like to thank those on the Island who have been so supportive and creative. We are constantly asked by other magazine editors in Canada how we are getting so many amazing photos. The answer is simple; these fabulous photos are the direct result of both an overwhelming talent pool on Vancouver Island and some obviously fantastic local island and ocean landscapes.

Since Teresa Brenay joined our editing team in 2014, her energy and creativity has taken the magazine to an even higher level. If you don’t believe us, just ask any one of the many witnesses who saw her both run and organize two magazine-worthy photo shoots on the same day, on the same street!

That said, we are also grateful to the many off-island wedding industry professionals for their support. Thanks to them, we’ve been able to bring high- end fashion into our shoots, further encouraging our vision of Vancouver Island as the stylish, sophisticated destination wedding location of choice.

In addition, we’d like to recognize the efforts of Jessica Mulroney for pairing Pnina Tornai Kleinfeld-Hudson’s Bay gowns together with Tofino, Nanaimo, Parksville, Campbell River and Victoria wedding professionals in our shoot last January. This was the first time Pnina Tornai gowns have visited Vancouver Island. Within hours of the sneak peek photos going viral, feedback came with love pouring in from admirers around the world— including Pnina Tornai herself.

While in New York for the Pnina Tornai 2014 Fall Trunk Show, we (literally) ran into Emmy Scarterfield on the street. We discovered that her designs are worn by many famous women including Duchess Catherine. Since our chance encounter, Emmy London has been shipping shoes for our shoots, all the way from London, England. Emmy London line is now also featured at Kleinfeld Hudson’s Bay.

We love that the attention created by the wedding design and fashion we celebrate, in this magazine and online, truly brings the best of Island weddings to light on a global scale. We hope to continue this trend of mixing local with international in the future. It’s time to let the world come to us for top fashion and design, right here on Vancouver Island! ♥

Everywhere you look you’ll find an abundance of greenery, trees, driftwood, ferns, stones, shells, moss, sand, pine cones and more - all free for the taking and usable by creative couples as décor on their wedding days.

The team at The Ring loves skimming Pinterest for creative new Island décor ideas. Here are a few of our favourite pins/ideas... ♥ Pine cones, shells or stones used to accent name cards on plates - these are pretty and they make great souvenirs. ♥ Wood rounds (thick slices of tree trunks, often with bark

still on) for cake stands or table centrepieces.♥ Branches which are painted and used to hang fresh florals. Birch branches are trending right now because of their sleek white/grey bark. ♥ Driftwood that has been hollowed out and used to hold candles. ♥ Shells, coated in glitter, and displayed loosely across table tops.
