It is exciting that Mr Tristan Muir has joined our school to teach 2Patonga until the return of Miss Carrasco. We welcome Mr Muir to our school community. The fence will wrap around from the edge of our COLA, outside the current toilet block, around Cooinda to the edge of the Williamson Crescent fence. While this area is secured, the builders will erect a brand new toilet block for our students which will be placed at the edge of the Vision Team's room, next to the COLA. The next stage will be to demolish our current toilets, followed with a brand new purpose built field being made for our school. The natural reserve where we once had a bike track will be developed into a landscaped natural play area with walking bridges and environmental walkways. During construction, we will be accessing the basketball across the road during lunch breaks and we may utilise the field next to the Neighbourhood Centre for grade sport and other activities that require large open spaces. Please ensure your child has returned the walking permission note. When these projects are completed, the construction fence will be moved behind the new field and construction will begin on the new buildings for Mainsbridge School and our shared multipurpose School Hall. The projected timeline indicates Mainsbridge School will open late in 2020. This will indeed be a very exciting time for our whole community. Concrete Mr Ward and I have been able to organise for the asphalt behind the Hall up to the Stage 3 classrooms to be concreted. This will be a further addition to our school, making use of this large open space. Fixing the cracked and uneven asphalt will open this space as a safe, large play area for our students, which is most important during the construction phase of the Mainsbridge site. New security gate Similarly, we are currently in the process of organising a new fence and gate to be erected from the Administration Block to the C4K building. This fence will add extra security to our students, forcing guests to enter our school through the Administration Block, passing through the office. The gate will be opened during the morning and afternoons for parent access during drop off and pick up times.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

Ambassador Program

Huge congratulations to Melisa Mesanovic who has been awarded our prestigious role of School

Ambassador! Year 6 students were invited to write a proposal as to why they would be a good choice for

this important role and after much deliberation, Melisa was chosen as our 2019 Ambassador. Huge

congratulations also to Melisa's Ambassador Team, consisting of Tania Zamil, Rishi Bhojgi and Nyasha

Sharma. The Ambassador Program, led by Mrs Haeren, has led to many significant improvements to our

school, with all initiatives coming from the students themselves. I can't wait to see what Melisa and her team

do for us during 2019!

Staffing Changes

We have had a few changes to our staff over the past weeks. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Miss Pal

has had to leave our school. As you know, Miss Pal was a temporary teacher for 2Patonga until Miss Sandra

Carrasco returns from her overseas holiday during Term 2. To minimise the disruption to the students of

2Patonga, Mrs Sharon Smalley, Relieving Assistant Principal, has been teaching 2Patonga until we could

secure an experienced, high quality teacher. It is exciting that Mr Tristan Muir has joined our school to teach

2Patonga until the return of Miss Carrasco. We welcome Mr Muir to our school community. Further, Miss

Alissa Higgins is teaching 5/6Jamberoo while Mrs Juliet Farrell is on sick leave this term. We expect Mrs Farrell

to return to us at the beginning of Term 2.

Mainsbridge Build

Early in Term 2, our school will begin the exciting journey of the upgrades to our school and relocation of

Mainsbridge School to our site. The project will begin with a construction fence being installed, predicted for

Monday of Week 2 next term. The fence will wrap around from the edge of our COLA, outside the current

toilet block, around Cooinda to the edge of the Williamson Crescent fence. While this area is secured, the

builders will erect a brand new toilet block for our students which will be placed at the edge of the Vision

Team's room, next to the COLA. The next stage will be to demolish our current toilets, followed with a brand

new purpose built field being made for our school. The natural reserve where we once had a bike track will

be developed into a landscaped natural play area with walking bridges and environmental walkways.

During construction, we will be accessing the basketball across the road during lunch breaks and we may

utilise the field next to the Neighbourhood Centre for grade sport and other activities that require large

open spaces. Please ensure your child has returned the walking permission note.

When these projects are completed, the construction fence will be moved behind the new field and

construction will begin on the new buildings for Mainsbridge School and our shared multipurpose School

Hall. The projected timeline indicates Mainsbridge School will open late in 2020. This will indeed be a very

exciting time for our whole community.

Concrete

Mr Ward and I have been able to organise for the asphalt behind the Hall up to the Stage 3 classrooms to

be concreted. This will be a further addition to our school, making use of this large open space. Fixing the

cracked and uneven asphalt will open this space as a safe, large play area for our students, which is most

important during the construction phase of the Mainsbridge site.

New security gate

Similarly, we are currently in the process of organising a new fence and gate to be erected from the

Administration Block to the C4K building. This fence will add extra security to our students, forcing guests to

enter our school through the Administration Block, passing through the office. The gate will be opened

during the morning and afternoons for parent access during drop off and pick up times.

SPECIAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (SRE)

Special Religious Education (SRE) classes began in week 6. We have only been able to secure Catholic SRE

teachers through All Saints Liverpool Parish. We continue to liaise with Islamic Council of Australia and St

Luke's Anglican Church in search of approved teaching staff. Until then, there will be no Islamic or Anglican

SRE lessons. Students in those SRE classes will remain with the rest of their class, completing independent

learning activities. If you have any queries, feel free to approach our office.

SRE School Co-ordinator

CRUNCH N SIP

The Crunch N Sip program is a highly successful initiative to encourage the children to

improve their daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and to drink plenty of water. You

can support this initiative by making sure that your child has their “Fruit Break“ snack

every day and an extra bottle of water to have available in the classroom.

NO HAT- PLAY IN THE SHADE

Does your child remember to bring their hat to school every day? Families are

reminded that children need to have a hat to play in the playground with their friends.

Children who do not have a hat are required to play quietly under the shelter.

SCHOOL BANKING 2019

School banking takes place each Wednesday.

Students Commonwealth bank books will be collected from their classrooms, and returned

to their teachers for return to students.

If you would like to open an account with the Commonwealth Bank for your child please

speak with School Banking Co-ordinators on any Wednesday in the C4K Room.

COFFEE AND CHAT On Wed 20th March Mrs Haeren and Mrs Williams delivered an engaging presentation explaining Learning

Support and Wellbeing at Warwick Farm Public School – the Wellbeing Project. Both teachers explained:

emotions

the benefits of social and emotional learning

Positive Behavour in Learning (PBL – our STARS)

Building a school wellbeing culture by building capacity for teachers, students and families

Parents and carers enjoyed this interactive and informative session and were amazed by the range of

strategies and practices employed across the school to ensure wellbeing and positive behaviour.

Attendance at this important session by parents and carers was excellent.

Have a look at pictures from our session.

On Wednesday 27th March, do not miss our next Coffee and Chat session!

Kimberley Griffith from Health NSW will deliver a practical and informative workshop for parents/carers on

Healthy Lunchboxes and Healthy Eating (primary school student focus). This will also be held in the C4K room

at 9:10–10:00am.

HARMONY DAY On Thursday 21st March 2019, we celebrated Harmony Day. Everyone belongs in our community and this

day celebrated our diverse backgrounds and unity across our school community. During the day students

made percussion in class and were engaged in discussions about our cultural diversity and why it is good to

celebrate the differences which bring us together in Australia.

Students wore orange or almost orange clothes as a symbol of equality and harmony. At our assembly at

the end of the day, Mr Cameron conducted the school in a percussion and singing rendition of our

wonderful school song. Look out on Facebook and in this newsletter, for a range of pictures from this

fantastic day.

Parents, carers and staff donated cultural food for a lovely lunch at 1:30–2:30pm. We all shared food, stories

and had a great time together. This is something we value at Warwick Farm Public School!

I am at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the C4K room in 2019 and I am here to answer your

questions, hear your feedback and help your family. Please drop to say hello and have a chat.

Please enjoy the collage of pictures from our staff/parent lunch! Enjoy the weekend!
