Steps to Apply

1. Prerequisite courses. Be on track to complete all courses before you would enroll in the PharmD program. A bachelor’s degree (any major) is recommended.

2. PCAT. Take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) after you have completed most of the math and science prerequisites. Be sure to register at least two months ahead of time and send your scores to PharmCAS.

3. PharmCAS application. This national application to pharmacy schools opens in July and the University of Minnesota uses the February PharmCAS deadline. However, due to rolling admissions it is best to submit your application early. The PharmCAS application includes all your official transcripts, PCAT scores, personal statement, letters of recommendation (three required), work experience and extracurricular experience.

Prerequisite Courses

These classes can be taken at any regionally accredited college or university. Courses must be a minimum of three semester credits and must be completed with a grade of C- or higher. For more information and a Guide of Approved Prerequisites for different schools, visit: z.umn.edu/prereqs.

When the University of Minnesota receives your verified PharmCAS application and you meet the minimum academic requirement (3.0 overall GPA or 3.2 in most recent 60 credits or 70% composite PCAT), you will receive access to the supplemental application by email. This part of the application includes a few short essays. The deadline to submit the supplemental application is one month after the PharmCAS deadline but it is better to submit earlier due to rolling

admissions.

5. Interview. Your interview will be about 45 minutes one-on-one with a College of Pharmacy faculty member and includes a tour, student panel, and information about the curriculum. Interviews are offered Cctober through March. You will receive your admissions decision about one month after the interview.
