    welcome to

Discover a land of infinite diversity: majestic mountains and sweeping prairies, secluded lakes and rocky seashores, historic sites and trendy urban enclaves.

Begin your journey in one of Canadas easy-to-reach gateway cities. Catch the scent of fresh-baked brioche as you clatter along the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal in a horse-drawn calche. Mingle excitedly with Hollywood celebrities at the Toronto International Film Festival. Cheer on a fearless cowboy at a Calgary rodeo. Browse stylish Vancouver boutiques before enjoying exquisite sushi.

The welcome awaiting you here is a warm one. In one of the worlds most multicultural nations, tolerance and curiosity have created an open, generous and welcoming society. Here, traditions combine in infinitely fascinating ways. You may find yourself savouring calamari with couscous at an Italian-Lebanese bistro, or applauding Shakespeare performed in Cantonese with English subtitles.

And you will come to suspect that Canada is the social pioneer of the 21st Century.

It is also the worlds second-largest country, and active adventures abound in its unspoiled expanses. Let a luxury train, limousine or float plane whisk you to the wilderness. Gasp as you soar over jagged peaks in a helicopter or kayak past a seal colony in a quiet ocean cove.

Canada is a place where polar bear cubs frolic in endless tundra, wolves howl on moonlit nights and herds of bison roam free under boundless skies. Meander quiet trails in national parks, biosphere reserves and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and imagine what this land was like before humans ever glimpsed it.

Immerse yourself in the magic of a country simultaneously ancient and entirely new.

    ATLANTIC

    CENTRAL

Historic lighthouses casting their beams over rocky coasts slick with sea spray. Tiny pubs where fiddlers keep things lively until the wee hours. And lobster so fresh it was swimming in the ocean this morning. The charms of Canadas Atlantic provinces are timeless, and the variety in these four friendly provinces is astonishing. Meet hardy fishermen in remote settlements on the rugged coast of Labrador or sip a fragrant espresso in Halifaxs Historic Properties. Touch the ancient remnants of Viking settlements at LAnse aux Meadows in Newfoundland or tap your toes at an Acadian festival in New Brunswick. Inhale the rich scent of apple blossoms as you cycle along a quiet recreational path in Prince Edward Island or relish the freedom of the road on the winding curves of Cape Bretons dramatic Cabot Trail.

In the heartland of Canadas two European founding cultures, French and English traditions come together in an unforgettable landscape of countless lakes and dramatic Canadian Shield granite. Like a voyageur of old, dip your canoe paddle into a serene river shaded by maple trees vivid with gold and scarlet autumn leaves. Slip into the timeless, carefree culture of cottage country, where the most pressing question of the day may be what is on the menu for dinner. In Toronto or Montreal, linger over tantalizing dishes with their roots in Africa, South America, Asia or the Caribbean. Strike up a conversation in a gallery-caf and discover that your companion is the artist who painted the striking works for sale. Find yourself photographing polar bears on the shore of Hudson Bay one day and touring an award-winning winery a few days later.

Rocky peaks dusted with snow pierce the clear blue sky. It is hard to conceive that nature can be so vast and so unspoiled but believe it. From the golden wheat fields of the prairies and the undulating foothills of the Rockies outside Calgary, to the isolated Queen Charlotte Islands on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, Western Canada is blessed with immense scenic riches. Hike across an ancient glacier, along the shore of an aquamarine alpine lake or through forests resonant with birdsong. Sip fine wines in a vineyard caf in the Okanagan Valley or go horseback riding on country trails at a guest ranch. Explore Canadas only desert. And when you have had your fill of nature if that is possible enjoy the urban pleasures of bustling Calgary, friendly Edmonton, elegant Victoria and dynamic Vancouver.

Above you, the sky is putting on a show no pyrotechnics expert could begin to rival. Jewel-like tones of emerald and purple pulse against the inky night sky. You are hundreds of kilometres from the nearest city and an infinite distance from the world you know. Here on the edge of the Arctic Circle, people live by the traditions that have sustained them in this harshly beautiful environment for hundreds of years. And on this unforgettable journey, you have the chance to share this legacy. Taste the rich flavour of caribou. Celebrate the brief but spectacular Arctic summer, when the landscape blooms with lichen and tiny flowers, and arctic hares bound away from your footsteps. Meet Inuit elders and soapstone carvers. Shout with delight as you guide a dog team or drive a snowmobile. Encounter a land unlike any other you have ever visited.

    GREAT SPIRIT CIRCLE TRAIL

In this land known as Canada, there are many different groups representing the original people, whose ancestors have been here for thousands of years. Often, visitors do not realise that the history, the culture, the languages and the traditions of the original people vary greatly in each region across this vast country.

The Great Spirit Circle Trail encompasses eight First Nation communities on Manitoulin Island and the Sagamok region in Northeastern Ontario. Sagamok and Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater island in the world, are home to the Anishnawbek the Ojibwe, Odawa and Pottawatomi people who have a long and storied history, rich culture and abundant lands. The warmth of the people, the serenity of the forests and waters, and the vibrant culture of the Anishnawbek people are yours to discover as you experience the past and enjoy the present. Truly blessed by the Creator, this region is one of the most beautiful and serene areas of Northeastern Ontario.

Participate in half-day cultural experiences and events, full-day guided tours, and multi-day touring packages. Reward your senses and rejuvenate your spirit on a nature walk accompanied by your Aboriginal hosts. Experience history as you retrace ancient canoe routes. Unwind to the soft murmur of legends and stories from days long past. Enjoy relaxing day trips, rustic or refined accommodations, traditional regional cuisine, and a wide variety of shops, galleries, and educational and cultural activities. The regions waterways boast fine fishing and many lakes, inlets, coves and islands suitable for the canoeing and kayaking adventurer. Guests should be sure to bring their cameras, as the sunsets and wild animals are plentiful.

Selected as one of the top 29 significant places to explore in all of Canada, as determined by the Canadian Tourism Commission and Aboriginal Tourism Canada, the Great Spirit Circle Trail has an experience waiting for everyone, including independent travellers, families and groups of all sizes.

Discover the people from countless cultures who make up the Canadian mosaic: urban gourmets, rural artisans, globetrotting intellectuals, prairie farmers, Inuit hunters and many more. Opportunities for authentic encounters abound.

At a sugar shack in Quebec, walk with a third-generation farmer to tap trees for their sap, then learn how to make taffy by pouring hot maple syrup on snow. Gather partridgeberries in the rocky meadows of Newfoundland. Savour

    CALGARY STAMPEDE

    FESTIVAL WESTERN DE ST-TITE

Grab your boots and your cowboy hat! For 10 days each summer, Calgary plays host to one of Canada's most famous spectacles: the Calgary Stampede. Thrill to the thunder of hooves at the fiercely competitive chuckwagon races. Marvel at the great skills of the cowboys and barrel racers. Hold your breath as a rider struggles to stay eight seconds on the back of a bronc. Applaud equestrians, acrobats, singers and pyrotechnic geniuses during the no-holds-barred grandstand show. Revel in one of the West's most iconic gatherings, where time-honoured traditions are on full display.

It is hard to describe the way "Stampede fever" grips the city each year, and the excitement extends far beyond Stampede Park. The event kicks off with a colourful parade through the streets of Calgary. Throughout the 10 days of Stampede, executives sport bolo ties and Stetsons as they stride to their downtown offices. Restaurants and bars boast cowboy-style decor, and the fun continues late into the night. It's a classic Canadian experience.

Imagine if the entire population of the United States paid a visit to the city of Montreal. Thats what happens every year, in September, to the residents of St-Tite, a small town in the St. Maurice Valley region. What began as a small Western rodeo and merchant fair in 1967 has become a world-renowned event recognised by the International Professional Rodeo Association as "Best Outdoor Rodeo in North America" since 1999.

The Festival Western de St-Tite is a unique Country and Western experience and a model of excellence in rodeo production for Eastern North America whose continued growth is the result of hard work on the part of the many passionate men and women who contribute to the Festival's success. For 10 days of festivities, visitors immerse themselves in this exceptional lifestyle. That's how the Festival Western de St-Tite earned the title "Biggest Western Event in Eastern Canada".

Immerse yourself in plays at a theatre festival. Cheer on cowboys at a local rodeo or go big at the renowned Calgary Stampede. Pair fine vintages with artisanal cheeses at a wine celebration. Choices abound.
